GENERAL SUMMARY  

Under the guidance of the  Director , Studio Programs, the Instructor - Coordinator  develop s and implement s high-quality single and multi-session art-making classes and workshops at the DIA and off-site locations that authentically connect with the interests of diverse, wide-ranging audiences and help visits find personal meaning in art . This position f acilitates  professional development workshops for teachers and coordinates and/or co-creates Experiences to directly connect audiences wi th and expand upon interpretation of the collection .

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  

  • D evelop and plan artmaking experiences for K-12 field trips and programs .

  • Create and facilitate artmaking experiences that align with strategic goals, programming themes and exhibitions at the DIA and offsite locations for all ages.

  • Lead group tours aligned with art making experiences.

  • Use a variety of proven techniques ( e.g. Differentiated Instruction, Group Learning, Inquiry-based Learning, etc.) for engaging participants of all ages.  

  • Lead interactive in-gallery experiences connecting to studio experiences.

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of DIA permanent collection and special exhibitions to make connections to art making experiences .

  • Coordinate with internal and external partners to develop learner-center art making experiences.

  • Communicate with community partners and educators to prepare some aspects of field trip implementation.

  • Prepare materials for classes and help maintain studio space, supplies and equipment.

  • Maintain digital organization of program protocols, processes, curricula, project plans, and multi-media documentation.

  • Compose and submit program marketing copy.

  • Serve on museum committees.

  • Advise the Director of Studio Programs on program refinement, coordination, methods, scheduling, special considerations, and related logistics .

  • Apply DIA values to interactions to support a culture of belonging among internal and external stakeholders.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS  

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

    Bachelor’s degree in f ine a rts , a rt e ducation, or related field required . Three (3) years of art teaching /facilitation experience including e xperience working with public and community art creation  required .  Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree requirement.  

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES  

  • Demonstrated collaboration skills to work across departments and divisions internally and with diverse stakeholders externally .

  • Demonstrated ability to speak publicly, including presenting or sharing information in a clear, effective, and engaging manner suited to the audience.

  • Working Knowledge of art making and studio equipment . 

  • Demonstrated research and analysis skills to identify critical information and complete projects and goals.

  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to changes in priorities based on operational need.

  • Demonstrated organizational skills to plan, manage, prioritize, and complete multiple on-going projects to meet deadlines and goals.

  • Ability to communicate with and manage relationships with external stakeholders.

  • Must have demonstrated active listening and communication skills and an ability to communicate clearly and professionally.

  • Must possess a demonstrated understanding of ethical business conduct and professional practices including maintenance and protection of confidential and sensitive information.

  • Ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours for special events .

  • Must be proficient in the latest version of Microsoft Office 365.

  • Must have proficiency in the use of remote work technology such as scheduling with, connecting to, and using digital collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams.

  • Must be able to establish and maintain professional, productive and courteous interactions that promote positive teamwork . This encompasses going beyond giving and receiving instructions and includes but is not limited to (a) performing work activities requiring interacting or speaking with others; and (b) responding appropriately to constructive feedback or suggestions for improvement from a supervisor .
