Posting Number P1746F
Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
The College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment (CFWE) at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in soils and biogeochemistry with an emphasis on forested landscapes. This is a 9-month position with 65% research and 35% instruction responsibilities.
We seek a broadly trained individual who will establish an internationally recognized and externally funded research program in soils and biogeochemistry of forested landscapes. The ideal candidate will be an ecosystem scientist with experience/expertise in conducting field studies and supporting analyses focused on the biogeochemical cycling of elements in forested environments. Candidates with experience working in various forested environments typical of the southeast U.S. (pine, hardwoods, wetlands) are strongly encouraged to apply. A broad range of research interests will be considered and may include: carbon and nutrient cycling in forest soils, soil microbial ecology, terrestrial-aquatic exchange, and the fate of carbon and other elements in response to climate change and disturbances such as fire, harvesting, and other forest operations, drought, saltwater intrusion, hydrologic modifications, etc.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate for this position will be expected to develop 1) an internationally recognized research program by publishing in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and obtaining extramural research funding and 2) interdisciplinary and multisectoral collaborations with research teams on campus and beyond with a broad range of expertise. This individual is also expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in his/her area of expertise, including the undergraduate-level Forest Soils class in CFWE. Other responsibilities include recruiting and training graduate students, undergraduate mentoring, and college, university, and professional service.
About Auburn: At Auburn, our work changes lives. Ranked by U.S. News and World Report as a premier public institution, Auburn University is dedicated to shaping the future of the people of Alabama, the nation, and the world through forward-thinking education, life-enhancing research, scholarship and selfless service. Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have an earned doctorate at the date of hire in soil science or a related field with a strong record in conducting independent and cross-discipline research. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills are required, and a commitment to inclusion and diversity is essential.

Desired Qualifications
A demonstrated record of scholarly publication, extramural funding, and teaching at the university level is highly desirable. To be considered for the Associate Professor level, candidates must provide examples of unique and significant contributions to research and teaching and convincing evidence of emerging stature as a national or international authority in their field.
