Responsibilities :

Global Process Automation & Control Engineering (GPACE) is part of the Engineering Tech Center (ETC).  GPACE provides automation, measurement, and process control solutions.  GPACE is a technical resource for training, standards, capital project delivery, and Lilly’s standard automation platforms.  GPACE’s primary customers are global manufacturing and development sites, MQ-IDS (Information & Data Solutions), and peer groups such as Global Facilities Delivery (GFD).

This specific role requires expertise in the knowledge of the control systems used throughout Lilly to automate manufacturing processes with a strong focus on the Drug Substance (API) network.  This role includes platform steward responsibilities for the DeltaV control platform, DeltaV CLASS Library, DeltaV Live migration, and DeltaV Life Cycle Management and System Administration. 
 
This position requires technical expertise and effective application of technology for maximum business benefits.  The role will provide discipline leadership in technology development, knowledge sharing, as well as provide technical leadership to sites, and network with the external community at large.
 
Key Objectives/Deliverables

  • Automation/Control Discipline and Technical Leadership – Partner with colleagues to lead the discipline through solution assessment, reuse, and development.  Manage tools, engineering standards, master specifications and best practices.
  • CLASS Module Library – Provide support for the central CLASS module library.  Facilitate standards when required and work to leverage for new projects if applicable.
  • Knowledge Sharing – Provide technical coaching to other Lilly engineers.  Facilitate shared learning forums such as conferences and user groups.  Facilitate standards and best practices application to capital projects.
  • Automation Design – Provide support to manufacturing sites and Global Facilities Delivery during project profiling and design.  Ensure project design meets intended requirements, considers life cycle cost, and eliminates non-value add complexity.  Use replication and best practices to optimize project cost.  This role could be support or lead of Automation deliverables.
  • Optimization and Control – Increase the benefits of automation and control solutions while driving life-cycle costs down.  Apply automation solutions to meet site, network, and business unit objectives for productivity, quality, and cost.  Assist sites globally with technical planning, technology assessments, process control troubleshooting, and root cause analysis. External Influence and Benchmarking - Monitor and influence, when appropriate, changes in external codes and standards on Lilly’s behalf, and work to ensure ongoing compliance within Lilly.  Extract benchmarking information from academia and industry.

    Basic Qualifications :

    • BS in engineering or related science field
    • Minimum 3 years experience –including projects and operational support on Delta V platform

      Additional Skills/Preferences :

      • Experience working with validated systems
      • Experience with data historians and visualizations tools.
      • Experience with MES/Automation integration.
      • Experience with project delivery.
      • Strong knowledge of the Emerson Delta V platform.
      • Strong knowledge of Drug Substance manufacturing processes including Batch.
      • Strong problem solving skills on automation platforms.
      • Ability to work well with different cultures and engineering disciplines.
      • Strong communication skills.
