About Our Client

The Associate Director of Labor & Employee Relations will focus on the day-to-day management of two labor unions and provide guidance and oversight for employee relations matters. They will use their knowledge of labor law, and knowledge and experience of labor contract administration to sustain and promote positive relationships with our unions and unit members and handle all employee relations matter for the unionized population.

Job Description

Act as subject matter expert for the interpretation and administration of various union contracts with respect to employee wages, salaries, grievances, and union and management practices Manage and oversee day-to-day tasks related to labor relations and act as primary contact for all labor relations related questions and issues Manage and oversee day-to-day employee relations matters; coach and guide managers on progressive discipline frameworksServe as an advisor to HR staff and managers throughout the organization on contract interpretation, implementation and contractual issues Create and implement ongoing labor relations trainings for mangersConsult with colleagues in HR and across the organization to establish and adapt new policies as they relate to union contractsAct as primary liaison to union representatives and cultivate positive and productive working relationships with various staff and union representativesCoordinate and participate in staff labor management committee meetings Manage grievance procedures and resolutionsAdvise and make recommendations for dispute resolution Track employee relations cases and oversee the production of periodic reports on case volumeDevelop, implement and oversee ongoing practices and programs to assure compliance with the negotiated contractsParticipate in and advise on issues and proposals for contract negotiationsCompile and implement various reports, communication and information appropriate to sustaining the relationship

The Successful Applicant

7+ years of experience in ER/labor relationsDemonstrated experience working on related issues in a union environmentDemonstrated experience handling employee relations matters with a progressive mindset as an HR Business Partner or HR generalistExperience administering contracts and developing and maintaining relationships with a unionUnderstanding of state and federal laws concerning labor relationsExperience with grievance management & resolutionExperience in policy and procedure development Labor relations certification is desirableStrong ability to analyze and communicate on issues involving procedural complexity
