The Manufacturing Technology & Solutions organization aims to drive manufacturing excellence across the enterprise. This is an opportunity to join the MT&S team as an Engineering Manager for the Manufacturing Automation Team. Factory automation is a crucial component of Caterpillar’s manufacturing strategy. This role is tasked with building a team of manufacturing automation experts pointed towards developing and deploying automation technologies. Projects range from R&D efforts with vision systems and machine learning to factory robotic solutions. The manager will also be responsible for developing the talent of the next generation of manufacturing automation engineers as the leader of the Manufacturing Automation ERD program. The incumbent will manage a team of 10-15 engineers. Managing staffing, development, and performance management programs for engineering teams; motivating and developing project and team leaders.
• Providing specialized engineering technical support and consulting services to various areas of the organization.
• Managing high-impact, short and long duration engineering initiatives and projects; ensuring achievement of engineering plan and project quality.
• Maintaining project plans and driving programs to completion on time and within budget.
• Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.
4-year Engineering or Engineering Technology degree
Planning: Plans for allocation of resources in line with unit goals, technical and business objectives.
• Ensures the planning process is integrated with the overall business plan.
Reviews others' writing or presentations and provides feedback and coaching.
• Adapts documents and presentations for the intended audience.
• Mentors others to enhance their technical competence and its application to achieve more effective technical solutions.
• Assumes accountability for personal technical performance and holds others responsible for theirs.
Managing People:
• Anticipates and manages difficult interpersonal situations and conflicts; Regularly reviews employee performance and provides constructive feedback.
• Recognizes and adapts to differences in background, culture, language and work style, when working with others.
• Builds a network of colleagues from other areas with diverse expertise and capabilities.
Project Management:
• Utilizes preferred tools, techniques and methods for estimating project cost and time.
• Plans, estimates, staffs, organizes and monitors significant projects.
• Identifies risks and vulnerabilities; Conducts regular and ad-hoc project reviews with project team, sponsors, and clients.
• Maintains open communication among project participants and interested parties.
