The Grants Director is responsible for managing the development, writing, and submission of the organization’s grant applications and reporting. This position provides leadership to the Grants Team and serves as a liaison to program and finance staff. The Grants Director is responsible for ensuring that grant proposals are strategically developed and that all the organization’s internal and external stakeholders are engaged in the process. The position manages organizational data collection for accurate and timely reporting to funders and oversees grant management documentation. Additional duties include: reviewing all grant materials and communications; ensuring the organization has a robust prospect pipeline; and working with the Development Team on funding strategies and fund development projects. Oversee a significant organizational revenue stream and manage significant organizational relationships.
Develop an annual grants budget responsive to internal needs and external forces.
Manage federal, state, national, corporate foundation, and local grants across HK’s programs and priorities.
Promote best practices in fundraising and grants management.
Lead and manage the Grants Team (Grant Coordinator and Grant Administrator) and work closely with program staff to ensure well-crafted, accurate, and timely applications and reporting.
Work with finance staff to ensure proper grants accounting, invoicing, and reporting.
Communicate regularly with organizational leadership to ensure funding generation and capacity building are aligned with organizational strategy.
Generate project management and procedural resources for internal coordination.
Oversee organizational and project-level data collection and management, and serve on an internal stakeholder committee for the continuous improvement of data management.
Participate in the internal stakeholder policy development committee as needed to ensure proper fund stewardship and transparent procedures.
Cultivate and steward funders and participate in community engagement efforts to develop external relationships.
Develop robust project and funder communications and recognition in collaboration with the Director of Communications.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with standard office and clerical procedures, current office technology and computer programs/applications including Microsoft Suite, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe.
Must have strong editing skills, to edit for content and grammar.
Demonstrate strategic, creative, and critical thinking and team and individual problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively and respectfully in a team environment with a diverse group of coworkers, program staff, and funders.
Ability to self-direct, self-motivate, and demonstrate non-judgmental professional decision-making.
Must be able to manage multiple projects and various deadlines simultaneously and meet all grant deadlines.
Demonstrated grants management experience with a commitment to best practices in fundraising.
Proficient with federal grants management and OMB compliance highly desirable.
Ability to manage direct reports and delegate effectively.
Be non-judgmental and sensitive to cultural diversity.
Bachelor’s degree
~4+ years’ experience in grant writing and administration, experience with federal grants preferred.
