Director of Advocacy
Found in: Jooble US O C2 - 2 weeks ago
Job Description
International Christian Concern (ICC), seeks an exceptionally talented and motivated public policy professional for the position of Director of Advocacy. ICC is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit devoted to assistance, advocacy, and awareness for the global persecuted Christian Church.
The Director of Advocacy will lead a small team of professionals that informs domestic and foreign policymakers on religious freedom issues – through comprehensive reports, expertise on key regions, in-country visits, tours on Capitol Hill, and more. The director will cultivate relationships with like-minded groups and individuals in the District of Columbia and beyond.
Scope of Work
The department advances international religious freedom policy by building relationships and credibility among government officials in the United States and abroad. The Advocacy Department and ICC team supply policymakers with valuable reports and expertise on religious freedom and Christian persecution globally.
The Director of Advocacy will spearhead and collaborate with other members of the ICC team to affect change – such as advocating for Christians unjustly imprisoned by foreign governments or connecting members of Capitol Hill with survivors of persecution. The advocacy team supplies elected officials with comprehensive reports about global persecution in trouble spots and issues reports, petitions, and position papers on topics such as foreign blasphemy and anti-conversion laws. The department also partners with other organizations to prepare and file Global Magnitsky sanctions against foreign oppressors of Christians.
This is a full-time, exempt position with the opportunity to work remotely in the Washington, D.C. region – the ideal candidate will live within commuting distance of our nation’s capital. This position currently reports to the Vice President of Communications and Advocacy.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Cast a vision for the Advocacy team that leads to meaningful and tangible results for the persecuted Church, moves policymakers to act against oppressors, and rallies stakeholders and donors to get involved and support ICC.
· Set measurable monthly and annual strategies and goals for the Advocacy department; develop and manage the department budget; prepare project reports for the Executive Leadership Team and Board.
· Brainstorm and strategize new Advocacy initiatives that will garner meaningful results for persecuted Christians.
· Lead and manage the Advocacy department, including full-time staff, ICC Fellows, interns, and volunteers.
· Grow and develop the ICC Fellows program that consists of academics from colleges and universities and leading experts from think tanks specializing in religious freedom issues.
· Serve as ICC’s primary representative and spokesperson on policy and Advocacy-related issues.
· Maintain strong, working relationships with key officials in the U.S. government and on Capitol Hill, embassies, and NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) community; work closely with counterparts at the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), U.S. Dept. of State, embassies, and peer organizations.
· Conduct overseas trips to areas of particular concern; coordinate visits from overseas dignitaries and survivors of Christian persecution for tours on Capitol Hill.
· Write daily news briefs and press releases on religious freedom policy issues and Christian persecution in specific regions; help advance the cause of persecuted Christians through the news media and on social media.
Experience and Skills
· The ideal candidate will be a follower of Christ with a strong Christian witness and background.
Required
· A bachelor’s degree in international relations, political science, communications, or related major.
· Background in advocacy, public policy, international relations, or related field.
· Three to five years of professional experience working on Capitol Hill (e.g., in a congressional office, with a nonprofit that advocates for religious freedom, an agency or embassy, ministry, or peer NGO).
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Excellent organizational and planning skills.
· Demonstrated record of accomplishment of managing multiple tasks and projects and meeting deadlines.
· U.S. resident with U.S. citizenship or work visa
Preferred
· Expertise on religious freedom, Christian persecution, and geopolitical issues in one country or region of the world.
Salary and Benefits
· ICC offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits package consistent with experience, skills and proven abilities. ICC offers the following benefits to all full-time employees:
· Employer Paid Health and Dental Insurance Coverage
· 403b retirement plan with 50% employer contribution
· Excellent personal time off policy as well as paid holidays
