As the Chief Operating Officer (COO) at REC Solar, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the organization. Reporting directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for the overall operational efficiency of the organization by working cross-functionally to establish and continuously improve processes, standard operating procedures, and the digital infrastructure necessary to manage workflow and forecast the progression of projects for the business. You will serve as a key resource to the organization as it relates to best practices and standards in the solar and energy storage industry while collaborating closely with other senior executives to execute strategic initiatives and achieve business objectives. The position will report to REC Solar’s Chief Executive Officer.
Responsibilities:
- Organizational Leadership: As a highly experienced member of the executive management team you will provide direction and decision making on a number of aspects of the organizations functions such as best practices, project budgeting, and schedule forecasting from initial bidding and development through construction and commissioning. Lead organizational human resource planning across the departments and define throughput metrics to assist in proactive planning based on forecasted project milestones. Provide directional leadership regarding the engagement, selection, and contracting of vendors, consultants, subcontractors, and EPC partners, with the goal of maintaining an efficient use of internal resources. Provide guidance to the organization on the current and forecasted throughput capacity of the team to assist with strategic decision making.
- Operational Efficiency: Ensure that roles and responsibilities with accompanying standard operating procedures are clearly defined within the organization to facilitate clean hand-offs and achievement of financial milestones as it relates to construction borrowing, tax equity partnerships, and permanent debt facilities. Work with other leaders to maintain a “source of truth” for storing project level data and dashboards for the business to visualize progress towards achieving company goals. Seek to maximize our efficient use of digital platforms for task management, document organization and file sharing, as well as communications internally and externally.
- Team Development and Talent Management: Assist the organization with recruiting, developing, and retaining top talent within the team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth. Provide mentorship, coaching, and training to empower team members and build a high-performing organization capable of achieving operational excellence and the highest quality solar and energy storage installations.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a significant leadership role at an IPP in the distributed solar and energy storage industry, and 10 years in executive level management.
- Deep understanding of the complete project lifecycle and stakeholder engagement required for the successful completion of projects in a solar and energy storage IPP.
- Experience interacting cross-functionally with sales, development, project finance, engineering, construction, legal, and corporate accounting to achieve the completion of over 100 solar projects across the United States during your career.
- Proven track record of success implementing and managing the efficient use of digital infrastructure to manage solar and energy storage projects.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve exceptional results while fostering a thoughtful and positive work environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Strategic thinker with a demonstrated ability to develop and execute complex projects in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Sound financial acumen and experience managing project budgets and schedule forecasting.
- Entrepreneurial spirit with a passion for innovation and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
