Job Description Sayres, a renowned leader in defense support services to the DOD, is currently seeking an experienced Senior-Level Mechanical Engineer with a current SECRET clearance, verifiable in DISS in Washington, DC. This position may offer remote and/or hybrid work arrangements based on customer discretion.
Responsibilities:
As a Senior-Level Mechanical Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in providing engineering and technical support for various shipbuilding activities. In addition to the mentioned responsibilities, the following are additional duties that you may need to perform:
1. Structural Analysis and Design: Conduct structural analysis and design of ship components, including hulls, decks, bulkheads, and other structural elements, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
2. Machinery and Equipment Selection: Evaluate and select appropriate machinery and equipment for ship systems, considering performance, reliability, and maintenance requirements.
3. Propulsion System Optimization: Optimize ship propulsion systems, including engines, propellers, and thrusters, to enhance fuel efficiency and overall performance.
4. HVAC and Environmental Systems Design: Design and optimize heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and environmental control systems for ships, ensuring crew comfort and system efficiency.
5. Noise and Vibration Control: Implement measures to mitigate noise and vibration levels on board ships, enhancing crew comfort and operational effectiveness.
6. Fire Protection and Safety Systems: Integrate fire protection and safety systems, such as fire suppression and detection systems, to ensure compliance with maritime safety regulations.
7. Environmental Compliance: Ensure ship designs adhere to environmental regulations and standards, addressing issues such as emissions and wastewater treatment.
8. Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct risk assessments for ship systems and propose mitigation strategies to address potential hazards.
9. Testing and Validation: Oversee mechanical testing and validation of ship components and systems, ensuring they meet performance and safety requirements.
10. Lifecycle Support: Provide technical support throughout the lifecycle of ships, from design and construction to in-service operations and maintenance.
Preferred Skill Sets:
- Familiarity with DoD/DoN procedures and Policies, including the DoD 5000 process.
- Experience with Foreign Military Sales (FMS) and Military Sealift Command procedures and processes.
- Supervisory experience, overseeing and guiding junior engineers.
- Effective communication skills to interact with SES/Flag level personnel.
- Previous shipbuilding experience, including ship construction and outfitting.
Minimum Skill Sets of Qualified Candidates:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- A minimum of 10+ years of experience in DoD/DoN program management, Government technical management, or Industry business management.
- Active Secret Clearance verifiable in DISS/JPAS.
Preferred Skill Sets of Qualified Candidates:
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Possession of a Professional Engineer License.
- A minimum of 15+ years of experience in DoD/DoN program management, Government technical management, or Industry business management.
