~ Our unit is vital to the flow of patients needing to be admitted from ED, CCU, admitting, procedure areas and other hospital units, and from outside hospitals. One of the advantages working on the CREU is being able to take care of a vast variety of cardiovascular and medical conditions therefore exposing new nurses to a wealth of knowledge and experience, including LVAD. Our nurses receive additional training such as ECG class, acute care class and ACLS certification.

Division 2100 is a fast paced high risk cardiology division at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. We care for a variety of cardiology patients including congestive heart failure, left ventricular assist devices, post cardiac device implantation, post EP and Stent procedures. The Staff Nurse (RN) is an integral part of the patient care team using critical thinking skills and clinical expertise to continually assess the patients' status. The Staff Nurse (RN) must be certified in BLS and obtain ACLS certification within 1 year of working on the division.
Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.
 
Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
