Ulteig is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Lead Engineer in the Automation, Integration, and System Protection (AISP) Department. The Lead Engineer acts as a technical leader and is responsible for electrical design, development, and commissioning activities for protective relay replacement projects. The role consists of planning, scheduling, conducting, and/or coordinating detailed phases of assigned project work. This position will require travel throughout the state of California primarily working in substations and hydroelectric facilities. Provides technical guidance for engineers/technicians, make design recommendations, performs design reviews, field demolition and construction support, leads onsite commissioning activities, and provides troubleshooting support for protective relay replacement projects. Depending on experience, may review relay setting development and coordination, assist with protection system event analysis, develop relay test plans, and/or SCADA/HMI design.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required. PE registration is required.
~7+ years of engineering and commissioning experience.
~ Excellent verbal and written communications, time management, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
~ Experience reviewing and/or producing one-lines, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, control panel elevations, and bills of materials.
~ Experience performing onsite commissioning in one or more of the following areas: CT/PT wiring injection/verification, protective relay test, protective relay end-to-end test, functional verification of protection schemes, and CT/PT load verification.
~ Experience providing onsite demolition and construction engineering support.
~ Knowledge of HV substation equipment, MV electrical (apparatus) equipment including station service, 15 kV switchgear and protective relaying.
~ Experience applying protection system engineering practices and principles in one or more of the following areas: transmission line, bus, transformer, capacitor bank, reactor bank, feeder, generator, motor, and communication assisted protection schemes is a plus.
~ Familiar with application of NERC PRC standards for compliance is a plus.
~ Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) and California Electrical Code (CEC) a plus.
~ Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)
~ Willing to travel 30-50% of the time.
~ Must have permanent authorization to work in the US.
