Job Summary of Roles and ResponsibilitiesOur Environmental Division, which includes more than 250 professionals, provides air quality specialists, archaeologists, biologists, environmental engineers, environmental planners and scientists, geographic information system (GIS) analysts, landscape architects, project managers, public involvement specialists, visual resource analysts, and wetland scientists. We provide environmental planning, project management, natural and cultural resources analyses, environmental engineering, GIS mapping analyses, and construction monitoring for our industries. POWER Engineers is seeking an Environmental Planning Intern in our Lakewood, Colorado, or Salt Lake City, Utah, offices to support our Rocky Mountain Environmental Project Management/Planning Department. The selected candidate would join our team of environmental professionals to assist in land use and environmental resource data collection and analysis and to assist in routing, siting, and permitting electrical infrastructure and renewable energy projects. This paid temporary position for 8 to 12 weeks will provide insights into an environmental consulting career performing routing, siting, planning, and permitting for renewable energy and electrical infrastructure projects. During your internship, you'll gain more insight into the industry, develop real-world organizational-based experience that you can add to your resume, and begin to create a network of industry contacts. The candidate will report to a Project Manager or Senior Environmental Planner who leads POWER's routing, siting, and permitting teams for electric power and renewable energy infrastructure projects. The candidate will assist the Project Manager, Senior Environmental Planner, and other team members in executing their daily activities. This support will provide the candidate the opportunity to interact daily with POWER's interdisciplinary team of subject matter experts in environmental planning, biology, archaeology, GIS, public involvement, visual resources, and water resources. Key responsibilities include: Assisting in collecting and analyzing land use and environmental resource data.Participating in site visits and fieldwork to support data collection and analysis.Collaborating with the routing and siting team to prepare feasibility studies, critical issues analyses, and routing and siting studies.Assisting in researching local, state, and federal agency permitting requirements for project approval.Collaborating with the permitting team to prepare and submit permit applications.Engaging in stakeholder communication and coordination for project approval. In addition to working under the guidance of experienced team members, the selected intern will also participate in sessions designed to develop your skills and provide networking opportunities. Those sessions include:Professional Development sessions focused on resume writing, interview tips, building a LinkedIn profile, and more.Early Talent Speaker Series where leaders speak to interns about their role, vision for the company, and career path, offer career advice, and a Q&A session.Fun Friday activities where interns company-wide join to network and have some fun while doing it. Required Education/Experience Pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Planning, Landscape Architecture, urban or Regional Planning, Geography, Environmental Science or Management, Biology, or a related field. Recent graduates also my apply.Possesses knowledge and interest in local, state, and federal agency environmental policy and regulation.Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team and collaborative environment.Introductory knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.).Introductory knowledge of Google Earth, ArcGIS, digital SLR cameras, and GPS equipment is a plus.Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
