The Immunostains Laboratory performs three types of testing on patient tissue samples for clinical diagnosis. These include immunohistochemistry (IHC) which focuses on diagnostic protein markers and predictive/prognostic markers, in-situ hybridization (ISH) which is a technique used to bind a probe to a specific DNA/or RNA sequence, and mass spectrometry based proteomic (MS) tests. Specimens are received from surgical pathology, Mayo Clinic practices, and Mayo Clinic Laboratories practice. Histology Technician:
These technical procedures may include accessioning specimens, specimen processing and microtomy techniques, paraffin, frozen, and plastic. Prepares specimens and performs testing procedures on pathology specimens that result in the creation of microscopic slide preparations for diagnostic and/or prognostic analysis by the pathologist. Applies technical theory to provide overall operational support necessary to maintain and optimize testing activities.
*These positions are ineligible for visa sponsorship. Histology Technician (HT):
~ at least 12 credit hours in chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology,
~6 credit hours in chemistry,
~6 credit hours in biology
~ Histology Technician (HT) certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP)
Bachelor’s degree required.
Graduate of a NAACLS accredited program preferred.
Graduates of the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Histology Technician Program will receive preference.
Ability to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off shifts, holidays, on-call, and weekend work assignments.

Evaluation MUST be completed from an organization listed as a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) OR the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (The minimum rate of pay for Histology Technician is $25.37 per hour.
