Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Histotechnologist to join our team at Olmsted Medical Center. As a Histotechnologist - Mohs, you will be responsible for preparing slides with tissue embedding, cutting, and staining as directed by the pathologist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare slides with tissue embedding, cutting, and staining as directed by the pathologist.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of laboratory accreditation and regulations, and actively participate in the accreditation process.
  • Perform required quality control, actively evaluate data, and develop corrective actions with follow-up, as needed.
  • Perform required preventative maintenance on equipment and troubleshoot problems with appropriate follow-up.
  • Assist with the evaluation and development of new or improved test systems, as assigned.
  • Ensure management of adequate materials inventory with required documentation.
  • Demonstrate good working knowledge and proficient use of Laboratory Information System.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment including grossing station and work surfaces.
  • Serve as a resource for clinicians regarding specimen referral and consultation, turnaround times, and specimen collection and handling.
  • Comply with organization/department policies, procedures, and requirements for mandatory education.
  • Assist with new employee orientation and competency assessment with performance evaluation documentation.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree required with HT(ASCP) certification or eligible or equivalent education.
  • Minimum two years of experience is preferred.
  • Mohs experience is preferred.
  • BLS certification.

  • Demonstrates proficiency in general Histology practice.
  • Exercises appropriate critical-thinking skills and knowledge in clinical decision making.
  • Applies principles and concepts of quality assurance/performance improvement to the pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical components of the Histology laboratory.
  • Applies safety and government regulations and standards to laboratory practice.
  • Maintains knowledge base of contemporary Histology practice.
  • Practices ethics of the profession.
