Nurses on Unit 2E (Cardiac and Stroke) treat and care for a variety of patients with complex medical diagnoses including stroke, transplant, and heart failure as well as cardiac and orthopedic post-surgical patients. This 40-bed unit provides unique opportunities to include caring for patients with specialized needs including tracheostomies, peritoneal dialysis, and mechanical circulatory support.  
 
Cardiac and stroke rehabilitation include aggressive physical, occupational, and speech therapies as well as emotional and psychological support to help patients reach their maximum mobility and cognitive goals. As a rehab LPN on 2 East, we take pride in collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to conduct individualized plans of care and facilitate a safe place where patients are encouraged and supported through their new lifestyle changes.

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a key member of the interdisciplinary team to deliver patient-centered rehabilitation nursing services to individuals with a disability and/or chronic illness to attain and maintain maximum function. The rehabilitation LPN assists patients in adapting to an altered lifestyle, while providing a therapeutic environment for client's and their family's development. The rehabilitation LPN designs and implements treatment strategies that are based on scientific nursing theory related to self-care and that promote physical, psychosocial, and spiritual health.  
 
The LPN must be compassionate towards patients and family members, have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a team of various medical professionals.
