For information on MPA, please go to MPA General Role Description MPA is seeking a motivated, positive, and driven Carpentry Professional to join its Operations Division as a Carpenter. This position will be responsible for renovations, building inspections, graphic sign production/installation, locksmithing, as well as the installation/repair of beams, sea Guards, man docks, doors and cabinetry. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Creating and installing signs and banners. Repairing, maintaining, and installing all types of doors and windows, including overhead garage doors. Repairing wharves and sea guards at marine terminals. Performing general building maintenance, such as roof, gutter, siding, and painting work. All tools and equipment needed to perform the required work is provided by the MPA. All costs associated with the CDL license requirements during the probationary period are covered by the MPA. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. Experience: Three (3) years of experience performing skilled trade work in the area of Carpenter. Notes: Additional work experience performing skilled trades as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. A certificate from a vocational technical school with a major in one or more of the skilled trades as defined above may be substituted for one year of the required general experience. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in utilities repair classifications or construction and engineering specialty codes in the skilled trades as defined above field of work, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. Licenses & Certifications Employees in this classification are assigned duties which require the operation of motor vehicles. Employees will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.All applicants MUST list their driver's license number and expiration date on the application. During the probationary period, employees will be required to obtain and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with endorsements for Hazardous Materials valid in the State of Maryland. Employees in this classification will be required to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) to gain unescorted access to Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Port Administration facilities. Employees will be required to satisfy the agency's training and certification requirements to obtain and maintain permanent status in this classification. Additional Information Additional Notes: Employees must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as maybe required to maintain continuous operation of a facility and are subject to call-in. Employees are required to maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call back requirements. Employees who work with, or may be exposed to, hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead-based paint or chromium, may be required to undergo periodic medical testing and maybe required to pass hazardous materials training and can wear a respirator.
