Your Opportunity The Senior Healthcare Mechanical Engineer/Project Lead will apply building mechanical engineering principles, client service skills, and project management best practices to deliver projects that meet requirements, exceed client expectations, and align with project financial and other objectives. You will contribute to project delivery standards and work processes, provide quality control, workload forecasting, financial performance accountability, and collaborate with other disciplines. You will bring consulting skills into each client interaction and help differentiate Stantec as a top-tier design firm. Responsibilities Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of healthcare projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and on budget. Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders, including healthcare providers, regulatory bodies, and internal teams. Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and resource allocations to ensure successful execution. Collaborate with project leaders, architects, design partners, peers, contractors, and other stakeholders to define objectives, deliverables, and success metrics; develop innovative and practical solutions to meet project conditions of satisfaction. Lead cross-functional teams, facilitating communication and collaboration to achieve project milestones. Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to address challenges proactively. Conduct regular project status meetings and prepare comprehensive reports for stakeholders. Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, quality standards, and best practices. Mentor junior engineers and team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project delivery processes. Engage with external partners, including vendors and regulatory agencies, to ensure compliance and integration of project design. Establish strong relationships with healthcare providers, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure design alignment with project objectives. Lead the mechanical design for healthcare facility projects, including HVAC, plumbing, and medical gas systems; conduct site visits and inspections. Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess project variables and develop reliable design solutions independently. Prepare detailed design documents, specifications, and reports. Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers; ensure compliance with healthcare design standards and regulations. Participate in/lead project meetings and communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders. Manage projects and tasks of appropriate scope, complexity, and revenue budget; provide oversight for Mechanical Engineering staff. Contribute to the technical growth of the mechanical team and meet technical, contractual, schedule, budgetary, and client service objectives. Apply strong mechanical engineering skills to the design and oversight of building systems; manage production resources and workflow to produce design documentation, drawings, and calculations. Act as QC reviewer on projects; delegate work effectively to production staff. Nurture client relationships and pursue opportunities for new business; develop project proposals and participate in pursuits; deliver project-related client presentations. Pursue additional knowledge in related disciplines through in-house and external training; keep aware of operational, technical, or regulatory changes and integrate into processes and standards. Develop and maintain Mechanical Engineering specifications, technical documentation, and standards in collaboration with other technical leaders; maintain industry relationships and visibility with clients, sub-consultants, and partner firms. Develop presentation materials and present to clients and at industry events; participate in published articles, public speaking engagements, and industry/community events as appropriate. Capabilities and Credentials Experience in project management within the healthcare sector with a proven track record of successful project delivery. Exceptional communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence and motivate teams. Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, compliance standards, and industry best practices. Ability to manage budgets, resources, and timelines effectively. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to navigate complex project challenges. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, client-centered environment with a proactive, inclusive, and collaborative mindset. Familiarity with BIM software (Revit) and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Bluebeam. Valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field. Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in project management within the healthcare sector, with a proven track record or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional Engineering license is strongly preferred. 10+ years of OSHPD experience is preferred. Knowledge of Lean Construction, IPD, and healthcare design guidelines from leaders such as Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health, and UC Davis is a plus. Project Management Professional certification, LEED AP credential, and familiarity with various construction delivery processes are preferred.
