Role Overview: As a Principal Engineer in The Thermal Management and Systems Laboratory, you will be a recognized technical leader guiding research teams in developing solutions for thermal management, propulsion, and power challenges. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, shape technological roadmaps, oversee project execution, and mentor technical talent. Key Responsibilities: Lead multidisciplinary teams in shaping technical visions for thermal management, power, and propulsion systems. Develop relationships across GE Aerospace Research and with external partners. Identify technical challenges and growth opportunities in collaboration with product and engineering teams. Design and demonstrate innovative solutions for thermal loads in aerospace systems. Mentor and develop technical talent within the team. Manage technology roadmaps and funded projects. Lead proposals and external opportunities, including government grants. Shape team competencies and provide technical leadership. Drive IP strategy and innovation disclosures. Present research findings to leadership, government agencies, and at conferences. Qualifications: Doctorate or Master’s in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related field with 10+ years of experience. Deep knowledge in thermal management, propulsion, and systems engineering. Experience modeling complex systems and conducting trade-off analyses. Proven leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams. Ability to obtain U.S. Government Security Clearance (U.S. citizenship required). Willingness to work in Niskayuna, NY. Desired Skills: Experience in aerospace energy systems, system modeling, and component analysis. Familiarity with simulation tools like MATLAB, Simscape, Modelica, GT-Suite, etc. Knowledge of AI/ML applications in system optimization. Experience with component testing, data acquisition, and instrumentation. The salary range is $130,000 - $240,000 annually, with potential bonuses. The posting closes on September 30, 2025.
