Manufacturing Technician, Gear Lab Tesla’s Bay Area Prototype Machine Shop is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Manufacturing Technician to join the team and contribute to Tesla’s mission. The Prototype Machine Shop Team provides engineers and technicians across the organization with complex and critical machined components and assemblies to meet the most aggressive program objectives. Through close collaboration with a world‑class team of fellow machinists, fabricators, engineers, and leadership, we enhance the design of systems and products from concept through production by bringing intangible ideas to the physical world. We contribute to a range of projects from concept and pre‑production vehicles, energy systems, artificial intelligence, robotics, and other future‑facing initiatives. As a Gear Manufacturing Technician on the Prototype Team, you will be a key contributor in our Gear Lab initiative. This specialized team works with Tesla’s outstanding Drive Systems and Materials Engineering teams to produce the world’s best electric propulsion systems. What You’ll Do Execute established workflows to produce prototype gears on various equipment Efficiently set up and operate CNC gear grinder, multi‑axis lathes, vacuum carburizing furnace, GMM measurement machine, and other peripheral equipment in a low‑volume / high‑mix workflow Collaborate with engineers and machinists to review, plan, and execute work based on project requirements Cut materials, build tooling, set fixtures, prove and run programs at the machine, deburr and finish parts, measure and validate parts to meet engineering specifications Process and machine complex gears to tight tolerances in various materials with tight deadlines Proactively track, document, and provide direct feedback with clear communication to management, engineers, and machinists on design, process, project status, and outcomes with meticulous detail Identify, present, plan, and implement simple process and shop improvements Maintain shop equipment and keep your workplace clean and organized Perform all assignments in a safe manner while adhering to security policies What You’ll Bring 5+ years of machine shop experience or demonstration of exceptional capability 3+ years of gear manufacturing experience or demonstration of exceptional capability Proficiency with basic shop equipment, machines, and measurement tools (forklift, manual mill, engine lathe, hand tools, calipers, micrometers, gauge pins, bore‑micrometers, optical comparator, etc.) Thorough knowledge and understanding of engineering drawings, documents, and GD&T Ability to efficiently set up and operate multiple work‑centers simultaneously Excellent communication skills with ability to develop and present technical information through verbal, email, text, phone, Microsoft Office suite, and other digital communication platforms Self‑driven with positive energy, attitude, and eagerness to learn and grow Excellent mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, analytical skills, and time management Ability to work efficiently and effectively both independently and as a team with minimal supervision Flexibility – ability to work overtime on short notice based on strategic needs of the company Benefits Aetna PPO and HSA plans – 2 medical plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family‑building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both with options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company paid HSA contribution when enrolled in the High Deductible Aetna medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D, short‑term and long‑term disability insurance Employee Assistance Program Sick and vacation time (flex time for salary positions), and paid holidays Backup childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight loss and tobacco cessation programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation: $27.52 - $55.80/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits Seniority level Entry level Employment type Full‑time Job function Management and Manufacturing Industries Motor Vehicle Manufacturing, Renewable Energy Semiconductor Manufacturing, and Utilities #J-18808-Ljbffr
