THE CHALLENGE

The Electrical Engineer is a member of a team of technical Generation Engineering electrical experts. They provide technical guidance for engineering issues related to the maintenance and optimization of generation facilities. They lead engineering, procurement, and construction activities on power plant improvement projects. The Electrical Engineer also conducts technical analyses and evaluates emergent technology to support generation's technical, operational, and financial objectives. They interact with various parts of the organization and provide technical insight and guidelines in their area of expertise.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead engineering analysis and provide recommendations, standards, and guidelines for improved operation, maintenance practices, safety, reliability, procurement, construction, and testing on power plant improvement projects.
Lead, develop, and oversee project designs, specifications, and engineered solutions for power plant equipment and systems.
Provide input to plant managers for annual budgets and spending requirements for maintenance, safety, and efficiency improvements.
Provide operating and maintenance standards to improve reliability and efficiency of generating facilities.
Coordinate project design with input from plant representatives, contractors, and equipment suppliers to provide functional and cost-effective solutions.
Inspect and evaluate generating equipment and process conditions and prepare projections of operating and maintenance requirements.
Assure that generation projects are functional, meet design criteria, and are completed on schedule and within budget.
Provide outage and routine maintenance support, including planning, budget development, parts/service, and procurement recommendations.
Interact with Subject Matter Experts and cross functional organizations to support corporate initiatives.
Lead Root Cause Analysis for any impact incidences at generation facilities.
Coordinate with management to gather, analyze, summarize, and prepare recommendations for electrical planning.
Develop presentations for senior management and recommend and implement changes for best practices.
Ensure compliance with applicable policies, codes, and regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned.

THE PROFILE TO SUCCEED

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Must hold a PE license. In lieu of a PE license, must have a minimum of five (5) applicable years of experience as a practicing engineer. Applicable years of experience may substitute for a degree. Other requirements include:

Four (4) years of related experience in power generation, transmission, and/or distribution.
Extensive knowledge of major power plant components, controls, and protection systems, root cause analysis, and risk analysis.
Leadership role in troubleshooting and root cause analysis of technical issues.
Strong analytical and critical thinking capability.
Exceptional verbal/written communication and presentation skills.
Self-starter with the ability to make decisions and take necessary actions without specific direction.
Effective time management and organizational skills with keen multi-tasking capabilities and attention to detail.
Ability to work well independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
Valid U.S. Driver license with an acceptable driving record.
