Assists head coach in organizing and leading practice sessions. Trains, encourages, and motivates athletes to prepare them for games and competitive events. Teaches safety rules and regulations and ensures they are enforced. Develops physical conditioning programs that equip athletes to meet their potential. Evaluates team members to determine fitness levels and potential; advises the head coach on assigning positions or roles to athletes based on strengths and weaknesses. Ensures athletes are using equipment properly and safely. Identifies the strengths and weaknesses of players and modifies coaching strategies accordingly. Remains current on changes in rules, coaching philosophies and techniques, and technology relevant to assigned athletics program. Other duties as assigned. CompetenciesExcellent leadership and motivational skills. Extensive knowledge of assigned athletics program. Ability to work with student athletes. Excellent communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations. Ability to work in teams. Work environmentIn a gymnasium, on a field, or other match and practice venue as defined by the assigned program. Physical demandsRemain standing for extended periods of time. Ability to go up and down flights of steps. Ability to lift, push, and pull heavy objects. Ability to stoop, squat, bend, kneel, crouch, and lift. Must be able to lift 30 pounds at a time without assistance. Ability to traverse various areas of the facility (including unpaved areas, dirt paths, uneven terrain, etc.) to conduct practice and attend competitions. Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see with normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal range. Travel RequiredRegional travel to away games within the New England market. May be required to travel to a national camp for your assigned sport. Required Education And ExperienceHigh school diploma or equivalent required.
