Senior Practice Manager-Neurosurgery

Senior Practice Manager – Neurosurgery (West Houston/Katy) Come lead with us at Houston Methodist West Hospital. At Houston Methodist, the Senior Practice Manager position is responsible for independently managing and coordinating the complex delivery of care within a large, multi‑physician primary care, specialty, or multi-disciplinary practice. This position supervises front desk, business transactions, clinical support services, compliance, safety, and customer service and works to maximize revenue while ensuring efficiency, effectiveness, and compliance. The manager collaborates with clinic medical staff and system‑wide administrative teams. The role is committed to creating a culture of compassion, integrity, innovative thinking, and leadership excellence. The manager’s responsibilities include managing the daily work activities of the unit/department staff, ensuring quality, productivity, functional excellence, and efficiency while assisting in achieving strategic and operational objectives. The manager provides guidance, handles staffing, budget compliance, participates in hiring and terminations, coaches employees, and helps develop and implement policies and procedures to create a safe and effective work environment. The manager also implements training, monitoring, and operational initiatives to ensure compliance with ethical, legal, and regulatory standards. FLSA Status Exempt Qualifications Education High School diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED, homeschool equivalency, partial or full post‑secondary completion). Experience Five years of clinical healthcare experience, with at least two years in a managerial role. (Hybrid option: four years of clinical experience with proven progressive leadership ability.) Licenses and Certifications Practice Management Certification (required). Skills and Abilities Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the job, as assessed through ongoing evaluations. Proficient speaking, reading, and writing English, with a focus on safety and security. Effectively communicates via multiple channels with patients, physicians, family, and staff, engaging the recipient and ensuring clarity. Leads with critical thinking and self‑direction, using strong interpersonal and communication skills. Analyzes data from multiple sources to identify issues, draw conclusions, and develop solutions. Works effectively in a fast‑paced environment. Shows flexibility and adaptability. Manages staff scheduling to maximize provider productivity. Problem‑solves under high stress while maintaining strong communication. Essential Functions People Essential Functions Select, schedule, supervise, retain, and evaluate employees; mentor staff and meet departmental turnover goals. Conduct department meetings, policy reviews, employee rounding, performance appraisals, and new‑hire feedback. Drive team dynamics and facilitate process improvements. Achieve departmental and system metrics on employee engagement. Celebrate accomplishments, support growth, and resolve employee concerns promptly. Service Essential Functions Plan and organize daily operations for staff, physicians, and extenders, prioritizing service quality and customer satisfaction. Set service standards and drive performance metrics. Act as first‑line contact for physicians and staff. Resolve patient satisfaction concerns, complaints, and conflicts in a timely manner. Quality/Safety Essential Functions Maintain a safe working environment, review safety plans, and ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements. Use information systems to support performance improvement and data analysis. Promote safe outcomes by monitoring workflow, reporting near misses, and collaborating on solutions. Ensure staff compliance with policies and HR standards. Analyze performance data, customer satisfaction, and financial reports to identify deviations. Track and improve quality metrics such as utilization and close rates. Finance Essential Functions Assist in budget development and manage expenses within budget parameters. Track and optimize productivity, supply usage, and overtime to meet financial targets. Ensure accurate timekeeping, payroll, and reporting. Monitor charge capture and collections, manage petty cash, and reconcile cash daily. Identify and reduce incidental overtime. Growth/Innovation Essential Functions Lead projects and governance activities to implement innovative workflow solutions. Evaluate processes, recommend changes, and ensure sustainable implementation. Build strategic relationships across departments. Encourage personal and staff development. Oversee projects aligned with Houston Methodist’s mission and business plan. Contribute to annual goal development and support staff achievement.
