Bargaining Unit: UUP Job Summary: The Department of Radiology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking an full-time TH Staff Assistant 2 / Registrar, Scheduling & Billing. The successful candidate will: Correspond with the referring physician regarding patient authorization. Follow up with insurance carriers regarding authorization approval for patients receiving imaging. Be responsible to schedule and reschedule all imaging procedures using the Radiology Information System. Confirm appointments and provide instructions to patients for their procedures. Collaborate with supervisory staff, nursing, physicians and technicians to facilitate an efficient workflow. Be responsible for obtaining insurance authorization, patient registration, verification of patient demographics, reviewing preference cards to ensure accuracy and completion. Interview and obtain demographic and financial information for hospital and professional billing. Modify and update billing, clinical and appropriate information in the RIS. Ensure accurate entries in RIS, and prompt scheduling of all modalities. Secure referrals and/or authorization for reimbursement for insurance companies. Reconcile schedule with daily visit report. Verify both written and printed referring physician documents including referral / authorization received Secure authorization numbers and other pertinent billing and clinical pertinent information in the EAGLE2000 hospital information system. Arrange timely Radiology appointments for patients in RIS - selecting accurate referring Physicians name and appropriate serial/billing number from EAGLE (clinic or private patient). Burn CDs and scan requisition into the PACS system as needed. Maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality. Be flexible with availability as holiday and additional emergency coverage is necessary, as assigned. Required Qualifications: 2+ years of experience using databases, including registration and information systems and general computer literacy. Preferred Qualifications: 2+ years of experience in scheduling, patient registration, and insurance authorization. Bachelor's Degree. Prior hospital experience.
