Responsibilities
The Physician Assistant (PA) Hospitalist is responsible for utilizing training and skills to provide direct patient care,
under the supervision of a Physician.
ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
? Obtain medical histories when necessary.
? Perform physical exams (within established protocol).
? Diagnose, treat and monitor acute and chronic diseases (within protocol guidelines).
? Order and interpret diagnostic tests.
? Prescribe or recommend medications for prescription for medications and treatment (within protocol
guidelines).
? Promote positive lifestyle habits to all patients through education and counseling.
? Assure the supervising physician reviews and signs off charts within seven (7) days.
? Maintain patients privacy and confidentiality.
? Work closely with nurses to assure patient flow is efficient.
? Consult with the supervising physician regarding patient symptoms to assure proper diagnosis and plan of
treatment.
? Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families.
? Makes follow up calls to check patients progress.
? Reviews diagnostic testing results such as labs and imaging reports (within clinic protocol timeframe)
? Assists doctors with phone coverage and hospital rounds.
? Oversees clinical data collection (ie for quality improvement or database reporting)
? Conducts relevant research.
? Participate in quality improvement.
? Attends meetings as requested.
? Responds to emergency situations in an appropriate manner.
? Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
- Graduate of a Physician Assistant training program
Required Licensure and Certification(s):
- State PA license required
- BLS
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training
- 2 years experience as a full-time Physician Assistant, preferably in inpatient or outpatient setting
Pay Range
$48.26 - $57.67 /hour
