What To Expect Tesla Manufacturing Engineers have the important role of designing “The machine that builds the machine.” We work with cross‑functional teams (Design, Quality, Production, Sustaining, and Supply Chain) throughout the entire lifecycle of a product (from initial design through prototype development and into full production) to develop high quality and efficient manufacturing equipment and processes that will produce Tesla’s cutting‑edge power electronics. This role is located at Tesla's factory in Fremont, CA. What You’ll Do Develop and procure manufacturing equipment and fixtures for early-stage prototype builds and full-scale production Collaborate with equipment integrators and suppliers to design, manufacture, and install equipment for medium to high‑volume production Characterize, validate, and implement new equipment and fixtures on the production floor Develop and optimize manufacturing processes, including detailed work instructions to train technicians and line operators Plan production workstation layouts for optimal product flow, ergonomics, and efficiency Conduct process analysis, DOE, PFMEA, line balancing, and capacity modeling/simulation to improve manufacturing performance Provide DFM feedback to the design team to enhance manufacturability, process efficiency, and yield What You’ll Bring 5+ years of experience as a hands‑on mechanical/manufacturing/design engineer working on mechanical and/or electromechanical systems Experience using 2D CAD tools for conceptual line design (AutoCAD) and 3D design for mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling (SolidWorks or CATIA) Experience with conveyance, transducer‑based fastening systems, robotic systems (Fanuc preferred) Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment Experience providing Design for Manufacturability and Automation Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience Benefits Aetna PPO and HSA plans – 2 medical plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family‑building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans – both with $0 paycheck contribution options Company Paid HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High Deductible Aetna medical plan with HSA Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D, short‑term and long‑term disability insurance Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions) and Paid Holidays Backup childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits – critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program Expected Compensation $80,000 – $240,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits.
