Instrumentation and Controls Practice Leader Join to apply for the Instrumentation and Controls Practice Leader role at AE2S (Advanced Engineering and Environmental Services, LLC) We are open to multiple locations (in order of priority): Denver, CO Maple Grove, MN Lehi, UT Fargo, ND Grand Forks, ND Boise, ID Sioux Falls, SD Bozeman, MT Great Falls, MT Bismarck, ND Rapid City, SD The Instrumentation and Controls Practice Leader position makes you accountable for the continuous improvement of service offerings to our clients by leading innovation within the AE2S Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Practice. In this role, you maintain the technical capabilities of our Employee‑Owners as best‑in‑class and actively pursue a visible, leading presence as an expert supporting the firm’s overall strategies. You will lead the growth of the I&C Practice by providing strategic direction, maintaining an external presence to pursue I&C opportunities, supporting projects led by other practices, and assisting Operations Managers (OMs) and other managers in identifying the right resources to ensure client satisfaction. The AE2S I&C Practice continuously works to enhance systems using the latest technology in process controllers and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) software for supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems. Responsibilities Leadership Organizes and motivates the team while actively supporting and advocating for Company mission, vision, and initiatives Promotes the desired culture of the organization by leading through example Draws out the best in employees within the Practice Leader’s (PL's) sphere of influence Manages a healthy, constructive tension between project execution and business development and recognizes when adjustment is required to maintain balance Establishes high expectations and constructively leads the team in accomplishing the goals Strategic Planning Develops Practice Strategic Plans with specific strategic initiatives and drives implementation of the strategic initiatives in collaboration with the Practices Director Coordinates with the OMs, PLs, and Client Program Leaders (CPLs) to evaluate business plans associated with geographic growth opportunities and staffing resources Analyzes global decisions for alignment to the strategic plan Sales/Business Development Coordinates with the Marketing Manager and CPLs regarding promotional materials and strategic, geographic‑specific marketing campaigns Supports annual geographic market assessments and development of sales goals for the Practice Supports key business development activities and project pursuits Manages and coordinates the Practice opportunity pipeline in Vantagepoint Manages and coordinates internal and external content, presentations, and professional society engagement Technical Innovation and Resources Implements activities that drive knowledge creation and dissemination Assesses the firm’s competitive position relative to other firms and organizations to identify technical approaches that will improve the firm’s market share Develops new service offerings in alignment with client needs and expectations Works with OMs to identify technical resources needed to augment operational staff on pursuit and delivery of technical solutions including providing continued feedback to OMs Trends Identifies and clearly describes technical trends to key geographic business development staff Evaluates and prioritizes trends relative to our Client’s needs Develops strategies to implement prioritized trends to enhance service offerings Indicators of Success Annual Practice sales goals and personal utilization are met or exceeded Development and implementation of the I&C Practice’s strategic initiatives Continued improvement and growth of the I&C Practice’s Employee‑Owners Quantitative growth of I&C services into new geographies and for new clients Basic Requirements 8+ years of experience in instrumental and controls environment 2+ years of progressive management experience Ability to communicate effectively with clients, the public, and other employees Ability to travel as required for project/client responsibilities and business development Ability to manage clients, win new clients, and retain clients All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations Preferred Qualifications Degree in an instrumentation and controls related field Proven ability to lead internal initiatives and external projects including functioning productively as part of a project team Proven ability to effectively manage multiple initiatives simultaneously Proven ability to work remotely and manage projects, clients, and project team members Proven ability to maintain and model exemplary reputation for integrity, fairness, reliability, good judgment, and aptitude among peers, management, and staff Proven ability to work well with diverse groups Proven ability to make decisions and delegate appropriately Physical Qualifications Ability to walk up to 3‑miles on uneven terrain. Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally climb, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist. Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull light to moderate amounts of weight. May require lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds, with rare lifting of up to 50 pounds. Ability to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects. May be required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to, flame resistant clothing, hard hat, and protective footwear. May require occasional evenings and weekends with overtime expectations varying with workload.
