**Job Title:** Registered Nurse - Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
**Job Specialty:** Pediatrics
**Job Duration:** 13 weeks
**Shift:** 12 Hour Variable
**Guaranteed Hours:** 48 hours per week
**Experience:** Minimum 1.5 years of general nursing experience; First-time travelers accepted with more than 2 years of experience
**License:** Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing
**Certifications:** Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
**Must-Have:**
- Proficiency in physical assessment of patients from ages 0 to adult
- Experience with EPIC charting system
- Ability to titrate drips and care for mechanically ventilated patients in a PICU setting
**Job Description:**
- Provide comprehensive care for pediatric patients ranging from ages 0 to 18, including adult overflow patients
- Manage a variety of diagnoses including respiratory illness, diabetes, septicaemia, cellulitis, hyperbilirubinemia, neglect/abuse, mental health issues, trauma, neurology, and general surgeries
- Care for patients with acute and chronic respiratory insufficiency, circulatory failure, infectious diseases, endocrine and metabolic disorders, neurological diseases, toxic ingestions/exposures, trauma, and hematologic and oncologic conditions
- Patient ratios for general pediatrics: 1:5, Advanced Care Pediatrics: 1:1-2
- Administer medications as prescribed and educate patients and families on the plan of care
- Draw own labs and start IVs, with ultrasound available for difficult IVs
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including support from CNA, charge nurse, RT, Pediatric Pharmacy, Pediatric Social Work, Case Management, and a hospitalist with Pediatric APP support
- Participate in a learn and grow culture that promotes a traveler-friendly environment
- Participate in every other weekend rotation and may be placed on low census/on-call as needed
- Adhere to navy scrub color expectations
**Other Information:**
- The unit includes a 15-bed Pediatric Unit and a 5-bed PICU
- Orientation includes 1 day facility orientation and 2 days unit orientation with a preceptor
- Low census/on-call and holiday expectations apply
- Time off requires pre-approval
