Summary

This position is responsible for all aspects of assembly, troubleshooting, development, installation, and service of Custom Assembly Automation. Travel to customer locations to install and troubleshoot new machines. In addition, the Technician plays a critical role in the job documentation, quality, and eventually professionally representing EAM/Prescott in the field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical and electrical assembly.
  • Understanding of mechanical and electrical blueprints.
  • Documentation of changes with engineering and purchasing Bill of Materials (BOM’s).
  • Automation setup, startup, troubleshoot, and debug.
  • Assembly of mechanical components, bearings, pneumatic systems, etc.
  • Installation of electrical sensors, Programmable Logic Controller, motor drives, vision systems, etc.
  • Maintain accurate BOM changes for all jobs.
  • Maintain accurate time logging for jobs.
  • Work closely with engineers to develop new automation systems.
  • Analyze and record test results and prepare written testing documentation.
  • Test performance of electro-mechanical assemblies, using test instruments such as multi-meters and electronic controls testing equipment.
  • Prioritizing tasks based on production and service needs.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned to aid Prescott Metal/EAM to achieve its goals.

Installation and Service:

  • Assist with Service and Spare parts sales.
  • Assist with technical phone support.
  • Machine setup and run up for customer approval process.
  • Automation debugging at customer facility.
  • Working closely with engineers to develop new automation systems.
  • Customer training.

Minimum Qualifications/Technical Knowledge Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent, technical school/associate degree preferred.
  • Strong electrical wiring and crimping skills, small to large wire gauge and cable assemblies. 
  • Strong knowledge and experience operating power tools and hand tools. 
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical fabrication drawings, including tolerances.
  • Ability to read and interpret production job orders and bills of materials.
  • Experience with electrical control panels, maintenance, or troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge and experience with Lean Manufacturing, system, and tools.
  • Experience managing inventory and company assets.
  • Ability to design and build jibs and fixtures.
  • Experience working with engineers on projects.                   
  • Knowledge of pneumatic systems, components, and assemblies.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word.
  • Experience with basic ERP systems.
  • Ability to use and understand precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, squares, scales, etc.
  • Ability to travel to customer locations to perform service and/or machine installations.

Physical Demands/Work Conditions:

  • The technician stands for 8-10 hours per day with walking, stooping, and reaching, as well as frequently lifting manually and/or moving material up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Typical manufacturing environment, subject to dust, metal shavings, machinery oil, and electrical hazards.
  • Frequently working with machinery that has pinch points and rotating parts.

Required Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Safety glasses when on the production floor.
  • Gloves when handling material that is sharp.
  • Earplugs while machinery is operating.
  • Safety shoes.
