Perform and interpret routine diagnostic procedures requiring the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility across all laboratory areas. Adhere to technical and quality policies throughout the pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing to ensure accurate test results. Review the competency of technologists, lab assistants, and trainees as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining patient test result records.

2. Adhere to all laboratory safety and regulatory requirements.

3. Execute procedures associated with molecular techniques for downstream platforms, including sample extraction, quality assurance, amplification and detection methods, genotyping.

4. Perform quality control of initial samples and final library samples ready for sequencing.

5. Conduct nucleic acid extractions from samples.

6. Track all work and issues in appropriate databases and Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).

7. Proficiently operate the LIMS tracking system for accurate day-to-day tasks.

8. Maintain, troubleshoot, and perform routine tasks on equipment.

9. Conduct proficiency testing as per regulatory requirements (CLIA, OSHA, CAP).

10. Analyze results using approved testing procedures outlined in laboratory SOPs.

11. Evaluate test results, identify problems, and ensure result accuracy before reporting values.

12. Maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation for accurate result reporting.

13. Adhere to laboratory quality control policies, document all quality control activities, and ensure acceptable QC performance before releasing patient results.

14. Identify and correct problems affecting test performance or reporting, escalating to senior technologists or supervisors as needed.

15. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.

16. Collaborate with other departments to investigate questions or complaints from customers, clients, or patients.

17. Maintain a clean and organized work environment within the department.

18. Properly label reagents/test kits with received dates, expiration dates, and opened dates, ensuring compliance with expiration dates.

19. Assist in training new department employees.

20. Attend monthly department meetings and additional training/educational sessions. Participate in all applicable safety training sessions and maintain awareness of safety protocols and equipment locations.

21. Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections if required.

22. Perform other duties as directed by management.

Qualifications:

Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

• Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or related field preferred (Biology, Biochemistry).

Certification:

• ASCP or AMT certification preferred.

Experience:

• 2-5 years of technical experience preferred.
