Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts, fixtures, and work holdings. May also fabricate and/or modify parts to make or repair products, applying knowledge of shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Undertake a variety of jobs, in some cases with limited instruction or information.
  • Position and fasten work pieces.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Work from sketches, verbal, and print information in order to produce products according to specifications.
  • Select the appropriate tools and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as Manual Mills/Lathes, Drill Press, Jig Bore, Sanders, Grinders, and other support equipment.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers, depth micrometers, inside diameter gauges, and outside diameter gauges.
  • Read and understand gauging sheets.
  • Read and interpret blueprints to insure parts are being made according to specifications.
  • Be able to make blueprints for fixtures and tooling.
  • Listen to machine and tooling to ensure machine and tooling are running properly.
  • Operate hoist in order to load parts onto machining center, lathe, or mill.
  • Take down job efficiently (tooling, cleaning fixtures, putting gauges back, etc.)


Non-Essential Job Functions:

  • Actively participate in the 5S program, which is to Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain in order to maintain a highly productive work environment.
  • Assist with keeping the department and machinery clean.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Skills/Requirements:

  • Learn and work with Conversational Programming.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
  • Ability to hold tight machining tolerances.
  • Knowledge and experience using micrometers, depth micrometers, inside diameter gauge, and outside diameter gauge.
  • Understand various tooling technology.
  • Basic Math Skills; be able to use Geometry and Trigonometry
  • Geometric Tolerance Skills
  • Troubleshooting – Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Active Listening – Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Operation Monitoring – Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Possess a general knowledge of tooling speeds and feed rates.
  • Basic English Language Skills



Education/Experience:

  • 3 to 7 years of traditional machining experience.
  • 2 to 5 years machining experience with some formal schooling.
  • Job Shop and CNC experience a plus.
