We are seeking a Layout Detailer for our Wayland, MI office. This position will design and develop 2D and 3D models and construction drawings and prepare detailed working diagrams and instructions for installation of electrical components. This position would work closely with the Prefabrication department, VP of Construction, Project Managers, Foreman, and Purchasing to prepare installations efficiently and effectively.

Education, Training & Experience

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Required: 1 - 2 years of experience
  • Preferred: Formal training in computerized drawing (CAD, BIM, Bluebeam, etc)
  • Preferred: Revit training or experience
  • Preferred: Licensed Journeyman Electrician

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Use computer-aided drafting equipment to develop detailed design drawing and specifications.
  • Confer with engineering staff and other personnel to resolve problems.
  • Draft working drawings, wiring diagrams, wiring connection specifications as required for instructions to installation crew.
  • Draw master sketches to scale showing relation of proposed installations to existing facilities and exact specifications and dimensions.
  • Measure factors that affect installation and arrangement of equipment, such as distances to be spanned by wire and cable.
  • Assemble documentation packages and produce drawing sets which are checked by an engineer or an architect.
  • Review completed construction drawings and cost estimates for accuracy and conformity to standards and regulations.
  • Prepare and interpret specifications, calculating weights, volumes, and stress factors.
  • Explain drawings to production or construction teams and provide adjustments as necessary.
  • Lay out and draw schematic, orthographic, or angle views to depict functional relationship of components, assemblies, systems, and machines.
  • Coordinate with and consult other workers to design, lay out, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems.
  • Check dimensions of materials to be used and assign numbers to the materials.
  • Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.
  • Modify and revise designs to correct operating deficiencies or to reduce production problems.
  • Compute mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery using computer-assisted equipment.
  • Position instructions and comments onto drawings.
  • Lay out, draw, and reproduce illustrations for reference manuals and technical publications to describe operation and maintenance of mechanical systems.
  • If requested, provide relevant feedback on employees for purposes of performance evaluations.

  • Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time, have full range of body motion to bend, move, twist, walk, climb, and reach overhead.
  • Must be able to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) and have full use of eyes, ears, and speech.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
  • Work will be performed in a climate-controlled, non-smoking environment but travel to other sites or businesses may be needed. Typical work hours are 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with one hour for lunch. Work days and hours may be modified as deemed necessary by group manager.
