Job description:

  • Design and implement civil engineering solutions for Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with California state regulations and industry standards.
  • Assess strength of foundations, concrete, asphalt, or steel by testing materials and soil.
  • Use design software and drawing tools to accurately render and communicate designs; plan and design other necessary and related systems
  • Set design specifications by computing grade requirements, ADA access, traffic flow rates, and similar parameters.
  • Proficient in greenfield site layout, EV stall design, stormwater pollution prevention plan, grading
  • Plan projects based on the analysis of relevant materials such as drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, survey reports, maps, and other geologic and topographical data.
  • Draft and present reports on topics related to projects such as environmental impact statements, traffic study and right-of-way descriptions.
  • Collaborate with surveyors (or directs and participates in surveying) to establish installations or reference points, grades, elevations, and other factors that will affect construction.
  • Design concrete pad foundations for EV chargers, switchgear, electrical equipment, signage, canopies, lighting, and other structural elements on EV Charging Sites
  • Retaining wall design
  • Design stormwater runoff mitigation solutions (retention ponds, underground collection systems, etc.)
  • Design ADA compliant parking arraignments and path of travel.
  • Perform stormwater runoff calculations
  • Consult with and provide guidance to project stakeholders and managerial staff regarding engineering requirements for construction of various designs, modifications, and structural repairs.
  • Monitor project progress and ensures design specifications, safety, and sanitation standards are met.
  • Collaborate with team to ensure projects progress properly.


What You'll Bring

  • Possess valid CA professional engineer civil stamp (or obtain within 6 months of hire date)
  • Thorough understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and tools.
  • 3 years of experience in the EV industry (familiarity with EV charger hardware and supporting electrical equipment, site design, site optimization, etc.)
  • Proficiency in site planning, grading, utilities design, feasibility studies and cost estimating
  • Proficient in computer-assisted design AutoCAD, Civil 3D, StormCAD, LDD (Land Development Desktop) and other design, data recording, and analyzation software.
  • Thorough understanding of utility infrastructure, site design and planning, traffic control, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and tools involved in the construction or repair of such facilities.
  • Thorough understanding of safety regulations related to assigned projects.
  • Ability to travel monthly (2-3 days)
  • Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be both creative and analytical.
  • Extremely detail-oriented and accurate.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required
  • Licensed as a professional engineer (PE) in the State of California required (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date)
