Halff has an open position for a Traffic / Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Engineer, with a Texas PE License, to join our Traffic / Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Engineering team based out of one of our Texas offices (Austin or Richardson). The ideal candidate would have at least 10 years of experience conducting traffic signal and ITS design projects. This role will allow you the opportunity to be trained and mentored by an experienced Traffic / ITS Engineer (PE) and to gain ever increasing professional responsibility. Team Leaders play a pivotal role in leading Halff projects to success. They manage a dedicated team of engineers and/or professionals, ensuring the timely and high-quality delivery of solutions to our clients. Their responsibilities encompass project management, team supervision, client advocacy, technical expertise, and quality assurance.

The Team Leader is the key point of contact for our clients, working closely with them to understand their needs, provide expert guidance, and ensure their utmost satisfaction.

The Team Leader’s technical proficiency and leadership will drive their team to overcome complex challenges and produce innovative solutions. Moreover, the Team Leader will be responsible for maintaining project budgets, allocating resources efficiently, and identifying strategies to enhance project profitability.

Team Leader - Traffic / Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Engineer (PE) Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. Extensive knowledge of the function and department processes.
  • Oversee and manage multiple Traffic/ITS projects simultaneously, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with client specifications and industry standards.
  • Lead and mentor a team of professionals, technicians, and support staff, providing guidance, feedback, and support to foster professional growth and development.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, serving as the primary point of contact, understanding their needs, and ensuring client satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide technical leadership and expertise in design, analysis, and problem-solving, assisting team members in resolving complex technical challenges.
  • Ensure that all deliverables meet quality standards, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
  • Monitor project budgets, allocate resources effectively, and identify opportunities to optimize project efficiency and profitability.
  • Identify potential project risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize any adverse impacts on project outcomes.

Team Leader - Traffic / Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Engineer (PE) Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of principles and practices in your respective field (e.g., civil, mechanical, electrical, environmental, energy, etc.).
  • Understanding of project management methodologies and tools.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation techniques.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in software (Microstation, ORD, Synchro, etc.) and tools; GIS capability is a plus.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate a team to achieve project goals and meet client expectations.
  • Capacity to adapt to changing project requirements and priorities.
  • Capability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and clients.
  • Effective decision-making skills, even in high-pressure situations.

Team Leader - Traffic / Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Engineer (PE) Education, Experience and Licensure: (Minimum qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering or ABET accredited equivalent Engineering Degree; a master's degree is a plus.
  • 10+ years of relevant technical experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant project management experience.
  • Professional license/certifications in their field of expertise, PTOE is a plus.
  • Proven track record of successfully leading projects from inception to completion.
  • Valid driver’s license

Team Leader - Traffic / Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Engineer (PE) Physical Requirements: (Minimum qualifications)

  • Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
