Overview:
The Material Planner is responsible for conducting inventory demand analysis and managing Min-Max inventory planning for specific business units and inventory locations. This role ensures a sufficient product supply to meet customer service needs while minimizing inventory investment. The planner maintains inventory planning system settings to ensure accurate forecasts and planning, and coordinates with Buyers for timely and efficient replenishment. Additionally, the Material Planner may occasionally assume the Buyer role.
Key Responsibilities:
Inventory Planning and Management
- Implement and maintain Min-Max Inventory Planning using optimization tools and Oracle Inventory Management System.
- Conduct monthly inventory planning for assigned business units.
- Manage supplier part supersessions to ensure consumption of “Use Up” materials.
- Maintain unit and preventive maintenance mapping for accurate usage information.
- Execute and maintain automated internal replenishment for assigned units.
- Coordinate inventory planning adjustments related to organizational changes.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support business objectives such as part sales, customer service, inventory turns, cost savings, and inventory obsolescence.
- Manage activities to redistribute, return, or dispose of slow-moving or obsolete materials.
- Work with Corporate Supply Chain on sourcing and improvement initiatives related to inventory and GAINS documentation.
Business Unit Collaboration
- Serve as the main contact for assigned business units regarding inventory planning and buying issues.
- Participate in monthly Business Unit Reviews.
- Travel to inventory locations for support and training as necessary.
- Stay informed about current company and market conditions to make necessary plans.
- Analyze data and create reports related to key planning and supply chain activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business/Supply Chain or equivalent experience.
- CPM, CPSM, or APICS CSCP certification (preferred).
- At least four years of relevant experience in Supply Chain.
- Minimum two years in an inventory planning role.
- Minimum two years with inventory optimization tools.
Knowledge of
- Min-Max planning, inventory management, forecasting, and warehouse management concepts.
- Supply chain integrated business systems (Oracle preferred).
- Inventory Optimization Tools (preferred).
- Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Excel functions like VLOOKUP and Pivot Tables
Leadership:
- May mentor others with less experience in inventory planning or buying.
Problem Solving and Innovation:
- Analyze planning data and metrics, develop recovery plans as needed.
- Resolve inventory planning conflicts between business units and local supply chain requirements.
- Implement preventative and corrective actions promptly.
- Drive process improvements and communicate with field locations to identify and implement opportunities for teamwork, efficiency, and quality enhancement.
