The mission of the Kenosha UNIX team is to provide reliable, secure, and highly available computing resources in support of the Snap-on mission
Collaborate as a team to provide consistent and steady leadership, service and support to our clients and technology peer groups.

As a UNIX administrator at Snap-on, you will be an integral part of our IT team, responsible for the seamless functioning of our Linux and Solaris based infrastructure
The role will encompass the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of both Linux and Solaris servers, ensuring they are operating at peak performance and security levels.

Key Objectives:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux and Solaris servers and operating systems.
  • Perform regular system updates, patches, and security enhancements.
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Knowledge of business continuity, disaster recovery planning and implementation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues, perform root cause analysis and execute remediation.
  • Highly collaborative with both IT customers and peer infrastructure teams.
  • Support 100+ servers in a 24x7 complex and fast-moving environment.
  • Off-hour support is required in a team rotation.
What You Bring to the Team:

Skills/Experience Required/Preferred:

  • Experience as a UNIX system administrator (2+ years)
    • In-depth knowledge of Linux systems, preferably Red Hat.
    • Preferred candidates will also have experience with Oracle Solaris.
  • Hands-on experience creating and maintaining shell scripts.
  • Hands-on experience with installations, upgrades, kernel patching, monitoring, security compliance and troubleshooting.
  • Strong communication skills to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and contribute to the team’s overall success.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a similar field preferred.
