The solar engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation of solar projects, from concept to completion. Required Candidate Profile

Demonstrated ability to qualify new project opportunities cooperating with internal and external resources, to perform technical due diligence on project feasibility among other relevant tasks. Project work will be focused on design guidance and evaluation. In-depth experience in the design, engineering, and analysis of photovoltaic systems and battery storage systems, ranging in capacity from distributed generation to utility-scale opportunities.


The position will include travel to project locations.


Key Responsibilities


Origination Support

  • Provide technical review of inputs to financial models
  • Generate project scope of work and technical specifications and prepare RFP packages for Engineering and Construction
  • Technical diligence for new project opportunities, assessing the accuracy of third-party provided information, production estimates, site plans, product documentation, and meteorological data
  • Work extensively with PVSYST, Helioscope, and other modeling software packages to prepare design conceptual layouts and generation projection (P50) of ground-mount, rooftop, or carport solar systems
  • Work with AutoCAD to convert and prepare all project site data for integration into detailed conceptual layouts and models of solar plants, identifying site constraints such as detailed terrain maps, wetland features, flood zone delineations, and other existing exclusion areas with associated construction limitations and setback requirements (such as transmission lines, wetlands, public roadways, pipelines. etc.)
  • Review technical documentation (EPC Contract, equipment specifications, warranties, studies, etc.) during the due diligence and construction stage
  • Provide support regarding risk assessment related to the development of solar facilities. Provide Inputs based on due diligence of critical documentation pertaining to the Electrical, Civil, Structural, or Environmental aspect of the PV project
  • Assess and recommend primary project equipment (inverters, PV modules, batteries, etc.)
  • Collaborate closely with various departments throughout the project realization cycle


Qualifications

  • 3+years of experience designing C&I, Utility-scale, and PV projects, conducting feasibility studies, and constructing solar projects
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related discipline
  • Strong knowledge of National Electric Code (familiarity with California and New York local codes a plus)
  • Strong knowledge of PVSYST and Helioscope modeling tools
  • Ability to work fluidly between different project stages
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to navigate issues, problem-solve, and escalate when needed
  • Experience reviewing technical and due diligence documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with Utilities and other AHJ’s
  • Ability to communicate between different counterparties involved during the engineering phase
  • NABCEP Associates Photovoltaic Certification preferred
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office and high proficiency in Excel required
  • Experience with Procore or similar project management platforms
  • A working understanding of energy project finance is a strong +
