Role Description
This is a volunteer role for a VITA Site Coordinator at our White County Library site in Searcy, AR. The VITA Site Coordinator will be responsible for managing a small team of volunteers to ensure the completion and filing of federal and state tax returns within the scope of the IRS VITA program. The Site Coordinator will also be the primary point of contact for any taxpayers who need to resolve errors with their tax return or have other concerns about their service at the VITA site.
Duties
- Supervise a small team of volunteers to manage schedules, provide support, and ensure that tax returns are prepared in a timely manner
- Verify that all returns prepared are within the scope of the VITA program
- Electronically file the tax returns with the state and IRS in a timely manner and monitor acknowledgements
- Ensure that rejected returns are resolved and that taxpayers are contacted if needed
- Act as a liaison between the volunteers, staff, and program partners, addressing any relevant questions or concerns that may arise
- Develop and maintain a professional relationship with the volunteers, staff, and communities that VITA serves
- Maintain confidentiality of taxpayer information
Skills and Qualifications
- Professional experience with tax preparation a plus
- Leadership skills
- Strong verbal and communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills and comfortable managing other volunteers
Time Requirements
- Commit to volunteering a minimum of 30 hours during tax season
- Ability to work as a volunteer on Thursdays from 3:30-7:30pm each week from early February to mid-April
Training Requirements
- Attend 12+ hours of online tax law and site coordinator training
- Take the IRS volunteer certification test to achieve certification at the Advanced level
- Complete TaxSlayer software training
