POSITION SUMMARY:

This is a high-profile position reporting directly to the Director of Quality Assurance effectively supporting the quality mission. Lead, implement and continuously improve the administration of all food safety and quality policies, programs and procedures exceeding expectations of both internal and external customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise the Quality team in the plant and laboratory
  • Implement and maintain plant good laboratory practices including proficiency testing programs for analysts
  • Lead calibration and maintenance programs for monitoring and measuring equipment critical to food safety and quality processes
  • Champion cross-functional initiatives driving continuous improvement in food safety and quality for primary and secondary sites
  • Lead and facilitate routine management review of quality to assess performance of the quality systems, report its effectiveness to senior and corporate leadership and implement actions for improvement
  • Own and lead cheese and packaging supply chain quality compliance for Marathon City in collaboration with corporate procurement functions
  • Lead select Marathon Quality Network initiatives in consultation with the Director of Quality
  • Design, implement, maintain and direct the use of leading and lagging measures for food safety and quality performance
  • Provide leadership and training to quality and operations staff responsible plant compliance with all quality policies, programs and procedures
  • Manage and verify the effectiveness of root cause analysis and corrective action programs
  • Lead HACCP/Food Safety Plan development, assessments and validations for new products and processes, including records and file maintenance
  • Lead and continuously improve quality and operations commercialization processes for Marathon City facilities
  • Manage and continuously improve compliance of the audit programs including the development of responsible personnel for internal and external audits, i.e. FDA, WDATCP, IDA, GFSI/SQF, USDA, NOP, and customers
  • Implement and champion inspection ready programs, training and expectations for all sites
  • In close cooperation with corporate Quality, liaise with Customer Services and Sales and Marketing on complaint investigation and communication, trending and sustaining resolution
  • Collaborate with Business Development and customers on new product initiatives
  • Lead data-driven continuous improvement initiatives to reduce customer complaints
  • Lead and implement food safety and quality culture improvement initiatives in collaboration with the Director of Quality at Marathon City facilities
  • Design, implement, communicate and maintain appropriate Quality metrics/KPIs at the Marathon City facilities
  • Evaluate and assist in developing processes, specifications and critical control points in manufacturing for ongoing Quality Assurance of all finished goods
  • Develop and execute training programs that support Food Safety and Food Quality objectives
  • Direct and manage administrative and record-keeping processes to support the Quality policies, programs and procedures at Marathon City facilities
  • Lead food safety and quality hygienic design, sanitation and packaging performance qualifications for new facilities, processes and line extensions
  • Lead Plant Crisis Management/Business Continuity Team
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree or commensurate experience in Food Science, Dairy Science, Microbiology, Chemistry or similar scientific discipline
  • 5+ years of previous supervisory experience in food manufacturing
  • Dairy Industry is preferred
  • Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) Certification or ability to obtain this certification
  • Strong problem solving, communication and leadership skills are a must
