About the role:


We are looking for a Hardware Engineer responsible for the development of an assigned product, for its hardware design, compliance, quality, time, and cost. The position reports to the Product Engineering Manager and it’s part of the North America Engineering & Innovation team. This position is based at our Southfield, MI location.


As Hardware Engineer, you will:

  • Perform design, verification, and validation of analog, digital and power electronics for infotainment, telematics, cluster, and display applications.
  • Perform electronics circuit analysis, worst case design calculation, electrical simulation and delivers related reports.
  • Perform customer requirement analysis and definition of the electronic part.
  • Attend technical meetings with component supplier and with sourcing to analyze alternatives.
  • Deliver electrical schematics design and BOM, product documentation, PCB layout specifications, verification, and electrical tests, according to hardware design guideline.
  • Define the HW/SW interface of microcontroller/microprocessors working in collaboration with SW Designers or System Architects.
  • Contribute to FMEA/FTA/Functional safety system/product analysis.
  • Perform impact analysis and risk evaluation of change request, modifications and PCN/PTN.
  • Create reports and documentation of electrical design, specification, implementation, verification, and validation, according to the hardware design process.
  • Support manufacturing, particularly for the production start.
  • Delivery of the electronic hardware documentation/dossier in the ePIM database.
  • Assure the application of electronic lessons learnt and best practices


What you will bring:

  • Electronic design and engineering of digital/analog circuits, switching power supplies, audio amplifier, led drivers, input/output interface to microcontrollers.
  • Electronic design and verification tools for schematics entry and for electronic simulations.
  • Knowledge of standard CAD for electrical design (schematics, simulations, and PCB layout). Use of Allegro cadence schematic entry and PCB layout. Experience with test, debug, characterization, and validation of electronics using standard equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeter, signal and pattern generator, logic state analyzers, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, wireless communication tester).
  • Knowledge of electronics devices and technology for automotive applications and capability to select components.
  • Electrical interfaces and thermal dissipation worst case analysis.
  • Experience in hardware design and validation of electronics board containing embedded processors, FPGAs and PC peripherals.
  • Knowledge of EMC problems, signal integrity, and guidance rules for PCB layout.
  • Validation and certification procedures (better if automotive) according to ISO9000 and ISO/TS1690 standards.
  • Problem solving attitude and hardware troubleshooting skills.
  • An Electronic Engineering Degree (or equivalent) is required.
  • Willingness to travel to the customer, supplier and Marelli locations, when required.
