Job Title: HMI Engineer (senior-level)

Type: Contract to Hire (9 months)

Location: Hybrid in Dallas, onsite 2-3 days per week (1000 Kubota Drive, Grapevine, TX 76051)

Pay Rate: Flexible (Market Rate) - Hiring Manager will be flexible based on years of experience / would like to see market rates.

Position Overview:

As a Human Machine Interface (HMI) Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and implementing intuitive and efficient human-machine interfaces for our agricultural and construction equipment. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to enhance the user experience, productivity, and safety of our machinery by leveraging state-of-the-art HMI technologies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop intuitive and user-friendly HMI systems for machinery and equipment
  • Collaborate with product management, engineering, and design teams to define HMI requirements and specifications
  • Leverage a variety of technologies and programming languages to implement HMI solutions seamlessly into their machinery platforms.
  • Conduct rigorous testing and validation of HMI software and interfaces to ensure reliability, responsiveness, and compatibility across diverse operating conditions and environments.
  • Implement continuous improvements and updates to HMI software based on user feedback, field testing, and technological advancements.
  • Analyze user workflows, task requirements, and operational scenarios to optimize HMI layouts, navigation menus, and control systems for maximum usability and efficiency.
  • Ensure HMI designs comply with relevant industry standards and regulations
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation for HMI systems
  • Provide technical support and training to internal teams and end-users
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in HMI design, human-computer interaction, and industrial automation.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of software development experience (or equivalent internship / research experience).
  • Proficiency in software development languages (e.g., C/C++, Python, Java).
  • Understanding of HMI development & graphics frameworks (e.g., Qt, HTML5, LabVIEW, OpenGL, rendering, layering, etc.)
  • Experience in HMI design, development, and implementation (preferably in the automotive, agricultural, or industrial equipment sectors).
  • Strong understanding of human factors principles, ergonomic design principles, and usability testing methodologies.
  • The problems you address will be multidisciplinary and require strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills across cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent problem solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of user experience (UX) principles and design thinking; familiarity with UI/UX design tools (e.g., Adobe XD, Sketch, Figma).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with HMI software tools like Siemens WinCC, Rockwell FactoryTalk, or similar.
  • Experience with embedded systems, real-time operating systems, and sensor integration is desirable.
  • Knowledge of IoT and machine-to-machine (M2M) communications.
  • Experience developing software for Augmented Reality (AR) / Virtual Reality (VR) (ex. ARKit).
  • Experience with embedded systems and real-time operating systems (RTOS)
  • Experience in the agriculture or construction equipment industry.
