Job description


Looking for an experienced chemist responsible for conducting routine tests following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions in our water analysis laboratory. Qualified candidates will be proficient with operation and maintenance of Thermo IC and ICP-OES systems, as well as other common water properties measurement equipment such as auto-titrators. Typical workload will involve sample preparation and analysis, data review and calibration to the highest standards, and assistance in generation of final report formats. As the lead chemist, candidate will also be expected to train new hires and/or cross train chemists. Additional duties may include stable isotope analyses and/or low level tritium analysis of water samples. Must be able to operate and maintain the equipment while working independently, and work with the other analysts and take direction from management and senior chemists. This position also requires candidate to consult with other team members if any potential sources of error are discovered, provide technical details to client facing staff to address any client questions or concerns.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct and coordinate all testing for water samples, using standard analysis instruments such as Thermo IC and ICP-OES, auto titrator system.
  • QC data and import into central database.
  • Maintain lab equipment as required for safe and accurate use.
  • Suggest and implement improvements to the company’s laboratory operations and instrument development
  • Train and mentor entry level chemists or cross train chemists who have primary duties other than measuring water properties
  • May perform routine stable isotope analysis of water, dissolved nitrates, dissolved sulfates, and also low level tritium analysis.
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment.
  • Expected to work 40 hours per work, but overtime may be required.
  • Work assignments carried out to the highest quality level.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Personal computer skills
  • Knowledge of chemical processes and laboratory techniques

Minimum Experience:

  • BS or MS Degree in Chemistry, Geochemistry, or related science field
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficient with operation and maintenance of Thermo IC and ICP-OES systems
