Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lab Manager/Quality Assurance Manager to lead our Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing operations. This leadership role requires 10-15+ years of experience in materials testing, including specialty testing (such as Triaxial, Consolidation, and Permeability). The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing large, high-volume testing laboratories, overseeing a team of technicians, ensuring quality control, and maintaining critical industry accreditations (AASHTO, CCRL, and USACE).

As the Lab Manager/Quality Assurance Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of testing, reporting, and quality assurance across a wide variety of materials testing projects. Your leadership will guide the laboratory team, ensuring productivity, profitability, and compliance with industry standards, while supporting both internal teams and external clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Laboratory Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of a high-volume geotechnical and materials testing laboratory, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and adherence to testing standards.
  • Team Leadership: Manage a team of 5-6 technicians, providing guidance, training, and mentoring to ensure high-quality testing procedures are followed.
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ensure that all laboratory testing meets AASHTO, CCRL, and United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) accreditation standards. Maintain and improve quality control programs.
  • Specialty Testing: Supervise and manage specialty testing procedures, including Triaxial, Consolidation, Permeability, and other advanced geotechnical tests.
  • Labor Cost Management: Manage labor costs effectively, focusing on maximizing productivity while maintaining high standards of quality. Monitor labor utilization and implement strategies to optimize performance and profitability.
  • Accreditation & Certification Maintenance: Ensure the laboratory maintains all required accreditations and certifications, including AASHTO, CCRL, and USACE. Coordinate with external agencies for audits and inspections.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously assess and improve laboratory processes, workflows, and procedures to enhance efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely testing reports for internal and external clients. Ensure all documentation is up to date and complies with regulatory standards.
  • Client Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries, ensuring customer satisfaction, and providing expert advice on testing and quality assurance processes.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10-15+ years of experience in Geotechnical and Construction Materials Testing, including specialty testing such as Triaxial, Consolidation, and Permeability.
  • Proven experience managing a high-volume testing laboratory, ensuring quality, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing and developing teams of 5+ technicians.
  • Solid understanding of materials testing standards, including AASHTO, CCRL, and USACE accreditations and certification processes.
  • Experience managing labor costs, focusing on productivity, efficiency, and profitability in a lab environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced setting.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to liaise with clients, staff, and regulatory agencies.
  • A strong commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant working environment.

  • ACI Masonry Field Testing Technician
  • FDOT CTQP LBR Technician

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in an indoor laboratory setting with occasional outdoor field visits.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, and bend for extended periods.
