SUMMARY

The Mechanical Design Engineer will work on the Design and Manufacturing of railway maintenance equipment. This role will focus on design and drafting of parts and assemblies, analysis of structural components, generation of bills of material, and documentation of operation and maintenance procedures. The successful candidate will be technically oriented with strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. This position requires the following knowledge, skills, and abilities.


RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Develop and improve designs for new and existing maintenance equipment using 2D and 3D CAD software.
  • Draft and revise 2D manufacturing drawings using ANSI and Geometric Drafting & Tolerancing standards (2009 ASME y14.5).
  • Analyzing components using Finite Element Analysis (SolidWorks Simulation) to validate the factor of safety.
  • Perform various machine design calculations using both software and hand calculation methods for material selection and design criteria compliance.
  • Assess sub-components and electrical components for interfacing with the structural equipment.
  • Interface with outside vendors and suppliers of sub-components to verify compliance of product specifications.
  • Generate bills of material based on fabricated and purchased components for import into the ERP database.
  • Document and revise procedures for operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Communicate with Executives, Managers, and co-workers in formal and informal settings.
  • Adhere to a fast-paced schedule and timeline while maintaining a high-quality standard of work.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors of Science in Mechanical or Structural Engineering with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Computer proficient; Experience with designing and drafting in 3-D CAD (SolidWorks strongly preferred).
  • Prior knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated technical writing abilities, and strong verbal skills.
  • Self-motivated with effective communication and team-working skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.



PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated understanding of general electrical design and principles.
  • Certified Solidworks Associate in Mechanical Design.
  • Prior experience with Finite Element Analysis, ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation.
  • 1-3 years work experience within Mechanical Design.
  • Demonstrated project and team experience.
