I. POSITION SUMMARY

Provide engineering services and information for developing and/or improving manufacturing processes in order to increase manufacturing efficiency and productivity.

II. DIMENSIONS

1. Position generates or affects cumulative annual project budgets of a magnitude of at least

six figures.

2. Position helps generate (or create the conditions for) cumulative annual savings in

manufacturing costs.

3. Position is typically responsible for 10 to 20 projects annually.

III. NATURE & SCOPE

The Manufacturing Engineer reports to the Manager Manufacturing Engineering who reports to the Director of Manufacturing Services. The incumbent evaluates and/or proposes areas for improvement in manufacturing processes.

The incumbent must determine the practicality and cost effectiveness on the installation or modification of machinery and/or processes. This is done by furnishing accurate data on a timely basis concerning the feasibility of a project.

The Manufacturing Engineer must oversee the installation or modification of approved projects by completing engineering design of the project, ordering equipment and installation materials, and providing technical assistance to the installation crew. During the process of completing a project, the Manufacturing Engineer may work in conjunction with equipment suppliers, Product Engineering, and other various manufacturing and service departments.

The incumbent assists various departments when requested to improve the quality and/or performance of a particular process. This is done by recommending solutions for new or improved manufacturing methods and machine designs for special applications.

The incumbent must handle and maintain schedules for multiple projects, at various stages of progression, on a routine basis. The incumbent must be able to readily accept changes in project scheduling.

The incumbent should possess strong written and oral communication skills. This position is often required to write reports to update the Director of Process Technology on the status of a particular project. Sometimes these reports may involve recommendations on projects and often involve the compilation of numerical support data for justification purposes.

One of the most challenging aspects of this position is determining, organizing, coordinating, and tracking the progress of all pertinent aspects of an assigned project to assure the project is executed, designed, and budgeted as scheduled. The incumbent is required to solicit or determine prices and delivery times, request design assistance or recommendations. Ascertain progress of on-going purchases or purchased services, and constantly update knowledge of the technical market.

The incumbent should possess a good working knowledge of machinery components and their functions. Some knowledge of PLC programming logic circuits is beneficial as well. Other attributes needed are the ability to work with others; a self-starter nature, and a strong background in mathematics, autocad, and machining principles and methods.

The ideal candidate for this position would have a BS in Engineering or equivalent in experience and education in a manufacturing environment.

IV. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Design equipment and processes to manufacture product in the most cost effective manner.

2. Estimate project budgets and schedules accurately to assure timely completion.

3. Provide technical assistance to other service and manufacturing departments within the company to aid in making improvements and/or correcting problems with existing manufacturing processes and equipment.

V. SELECTION CRITERIA

Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or equivalent in education and experience.

Experience: 1-3 years experience in Engineering related field

Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills.

Special Skills:

Good working knowledge of machinery components and their functions

General knowledge of PLC programming logic circuits

Strong Mathematical background

Proficient in autocad drawings

Knowledge of machining principles and methods

Drafting/Sketching ability

Strong Project Management skills

Dependability: Must be able to maintain satisfactory record of attendance and conduct. Must be able to work any shift and overtime, as required.
