The Kingsbridge Heights Community Center (KHCC) empowers people, from cradle to career, to unlock their individual potential and build durable pathways to purpose and prosperity. KHCC provides a broad array of educational, mental health, violence prevention, youth leadership, college access, food justice, workforce development and case management services. A cornerstone in the community - KHCC is both a landing pad and a launching pad - building equitable access to economic opportunities while providing wrap-around support that enables residents to grow, thrive and reach for their dreams.


The KHCC Board of Directors is responsible for:

  • Determining the mission and direction of the organization;
  • Ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management;
  • Fundraising and cultivation of partnerships and donors;
  • Monitoring and oversight of operations to build strengths and manage risks;
  • Selecting and evaluating the performance of the CEO;
  • Enhancing KHCC’s public image and reach.


Individual Board members meet the following expectations:


Oversight, Governance, and Stewardship

  • Understand and support KHCC’s mission, policies, programs, and services;
  • Faithfully review and assess the organization’s financial statements;
  • Regularly attend and actively contribute to 5 board meetings and one board retreat each year;
  • Provide in-kind support to KHCC through committee participation, volunteering at events or on specific projects, or supporting community-wide events by participating on committees and/or volunteering at events, forums, celebrations or volunteer days;
  • Engage in the strategic planning process every 3-5 years;
  • Actively participate on at least one board committee and regularly attend committee meetings;
  • Record and submit monthly in-kind contributions and comply with annual training requirements for board members.


Fundraising and Development

  • Ensure 100% cash giving by the Board by making a personally significant annual contribution that meets or exceeds KHCC’s give/get;
  • Directly engage and cultivate individuals, corporations and organizations to support KHCC’s fundraising, outreach, and growth;
  • Consider underwriting special program operations or activities and/or staff appreciation events;
  • Promote and attend KHCC’s fund-raising events and invite 3-5 prospective donors to every occasion;
  • Actively seek and recruit new board members who have relevant skills and expertise and can help shape a well-rounded, diverse, inclusive board;
  • Offer and leverage auction items and promote sponsorships and ticket sales for all fundraising events;
  • Represent and promote KHCC’s successes, outcomes and impact at business events, with colleagues, at social occasions, and with family and friends.
