Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Estimator to join our growing team. This full-time position is based in our downtown Smyrna, GA office. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in commercial construction estimating, particularly with design-build and ground-up construction projects. As a Senior Estimator, you will be integral to managing the estimating process and collaborating closely with our design and project management teams to ensure accurate, competitive, and timely bids for a variety of construction projects.
Please note that this is an in-office position, and the selected candidate will be required to work from our Smyrna, GA office daily.
Key Responsibilities:
- Estimate Preparation: Conduct comprehensive takeoffs and prepare accurate cost estimates for all aspects of the construction project, including site work, structural elements, and interior systems.
- Independent Estimation: Estimate site, interior, and structure scopes of work with minimal direction, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Construction Knowledge: Apply a strong understanding of construction means, methods, and industry standards to develop reliable, competitive bids.
- Subcontractor & Vendor Management: Assist with the prequalification and selection of subcontractors/vendors. Review subcontractor/vendor quotes for accuracy and completeness.
- Bidding Process Liaison: Serve as the primary point of contact for subcontractors and vendors during the bidding process, ensuring smooth communication and a thorough understanding of project requirements.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges in project estimates and work proactively with project managers and the design team to develop mitigation strategies.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the design team and project managers to review design options, ensuring cost-effective solutions without compromising quality.
- Project Coordination: Support multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring that estimates align with project timelines and budgets.
- Cost Analysis: Review and analyze quotes, proposals, and design options, and recommend solutions based on cost, engineering quality, and material availability.
- Site Visits: Regularly visit project sites to observe construction methods, assess project progress, and gather critical data for estimating future work.
- Bid Review: Thoroughly evaluate subcontractor bids to ensure all scope items are included and priced correctly.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience estimating commercial construction projects, with a focus on ground-up and design-build projects.
- Skills: Proficiency in quantity take-offs, blueprint reading, and the interpretation of project specifications.
- Bid Types: Experience with various bid styles, including Lump Sum, Competitive Bid, Cost Plus, and Negotiated contracts.
- Software Knowledge: Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Project, Sage Timberline Estimating, REVIT, and the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Attention to Detail: Excellent ability to spot discrepancies and missing information in bids, drawings, and project documents.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.
Education & Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Industry certifications (e.g., ASE, LEED AP) are a plus.
