New Model Quality Engineer


Description

Works internally and externally to assure the quality New Model products with proper communication between departments, by maintaining effective customer contact, and by supporting high quality standards in order to meet those quality requirements.


Scope of Responsibility:

Responsible to organize and arrange the timely completion of all new model quality measurement and product validation requirements, and for creating / updating documents, procedures and work instructions for all new model parts per AQP Team Matrix. Takes accurate information from customers concerning cast/assembly date(s), detailed parts quality issues, and related data to assure that the needs of customers are met. Sets up sorts as required. Relays information to AQP team and managers about new model quality concerns.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Daily Management:

  • Responsible to organize and arrange the timely completion of all new model quality measurement and product validation requirements.
  • Attends and/or leads New Model AQP team and customer meetings.
  • Creates / updates required documents per New Model Required Documents form.
  • Creates customer required documents as requested.
  • Conducts Internal audits (QAV’s) prior to mass production startup.
  • Reviews and creates Past Problem History (PPH) report from previous / similar models to ensure controls are in place on new model product.
  • Responsible to organize and/or leads 200% Inspection of new model product.
  • Customer contact on quality related items of new model responsible products
  • Ensures process standards are adequate during new model product development.
  • Makes disposition sheets for sorts of new model parts
  • Communicates customer new model quality issues to internal personnel, organizes containment activity, gathers the necessary information to write C/M reports with timely submission to customers.
  • Trains in new model quality processes.
  • Responsible for disposition of non-conforming new model parts
  • Tracks, graphs and enters data in computer system (ex. corrective data, 5P information, etc.)
  • Updates and maintains appropriate Customer Portal information and reports at least monthly.
  • Evaluates current production in efforts to improve new model development.
  • Return parts evaluation of new model parts and tracks their inventory monthly
  • Communication of customers requests regarding to new models
  • Travels to customers for sorts and parts retrieval of new models
  • Discusses issues regarding various new model parts.
  • Tracks new model parts in return parts area.
  • Reports information to the NPAP Division Leader and/or Manager.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned.

Improvement Activities:

  • Applies Deming principles and other root cause analysis tools when analyzing problems within the associate’s department and makes appropriate recommendations for improvements.
  • May participate in Quality Circle improvement team when possible.
  • May perform other related improvement functions as assigned.
  • Evaluates and when possible, Improves standard quality control methods that are being developed and implemented into new model launch plans.


Requirements

Education/Experience/Training (minimum required):

  • 4-year college degree (preferably engineering) or High School Diploma with 4-years of manufacturing quality control experience
  • 5P training
  • Experience and ability to take accurate information from customer (ex. when, where, how many, cast date, assembly date, and what area on part)
  • Thorough knowledge of the die cast and machining/assembly processes.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills; good organizational skills; good problem-solving skills with experience in the use of analytical tools
  • Strong knowledge and use of Excel and Word, Internet and email
