Job Description

Analytical Microbiologist Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related field with 3-5 years of experience (for B.S.) or 1-3 years of experience (for M.S.)
• Experience with microbiology techniques (e.g., microbial isolation, culture, and characterization)
• Experience with molecular biology techniques (DNA extraction, purification, and PCR)
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
• Experience processing microbiological samples and preparing solutions
• Results and detail oriented
• Excellent oral and written communication
• Ability to interact and collaborate with different groups inside and outside Bayer
• Able to work with minimal supervision
• Able to plan, execute, troubleshoot, and prioritize experiments and interpret/report results to both technical and non-technical audiences
Desired Qualifications:
• Experience with basic microbiological methods, including aseptic techniques for handling and growing microbes, and estimating colony forming units
• Experience with DNA extraction from soil and plant sample materials
• Experience with DNA quantitation
• Experience with qPCR technique, instrumentation, and software
• Experience with gel electrophoresis
Analytical Microbiologist Duties and Responsibilities:
• Support studies from different projects by analyzing different microbial species
• Perform microbial viability and stability assays according to standard protocols
• Process samples to recover microbes and cultures in different media
• Generate reports and deliver to different groups inside and outside the organization
• Operate, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance on common lab equipment
• Assist with lab maintenance and consumable re-stocking tasks
• Interact and collaborate with different groups inside and outside the organization
