Summary:

The Project Engineer works collaboratively with various departments (operations, maintenance, environmental, etc.) to ensure design, operation, control and production optimization are achieved throughout the manufacturing process. The Project Engineer will manage the entire life cycle of a various projects deemed organizationally necessary for the manufacturing plants.

Requirements:


Essential Functions

  • Perform engineering assessment and design of plant structures, utility and piping systems, and equipment/applications
  • Manage Plant Projects as directed and in accordance with Project Procedures and Standard designs, from conception and design through Construction and Commissioning
  • Coordinate supplemental maintenance contractor activity
  • Participate in plant objective setting, employee development, and plant performance reviews and action plan development and implementation.
  • Assist all areas of plant in developing and executing engineered solutions for eliminating operational issues
  • Monitor performance of plant equipment and systems and make recommendations to ensure high levels of reliability are achieved. Assist as required with Root Cause Failure Analysis Teams to eliminate failures
  • Participate in developing plant maintenance program and project needs and 5 year Capital and Plant Expense Project Plans.
  • Develop all engineering, drawings and equipment specs required to accurately support project development including RFQ’s, cost estimates, justifications / benefits and AFE preparation.
  • Manage all Project Phases after approval including Construction / Contractor Management, Commissioning and Operations Handover.
  • Ensure all projects are executed safely and meet Safety Compliance requirements resulting in Zero Accidents or Serious Incidents.
  • Control and keep projects under budget and on time; prepare forecasts and reports on spending and physical completion to plan
  • Ensure city, county, state, and federal regulations relating to projects are met at all times
  • Determines project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates
  • Determines project schedule by studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; sequencing project elements
  • Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors’ of Science in mechanical or chemical engineering
  • 1-3 years of experience in any of the following areas of activity in an engineering capacity
  • Bulk materials handling including packaging, loading, unloading and storage.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • project management experience with an emphasis on requirements analysis, timely deployment, budgetary consciousness and post implementation success sustainability
  • Strong documentation, process improvement, safety management skills
  • Entry level experience using computer-aided design (CAD)/computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software.


Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience in carbon black or granular/chemical plant operations
  • Mechanical Engineer
  • Major manufacturing equipment including but not limited to boilers, steam turbines, air condensers, cooling towers, pumps, heat exchangers, fired dryers, bag filters, conveyors, bucket elevators, air blowers, etc.
  • High temperature refractory lined equipment
  • Controls project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes; recommending actions
