About the Role:

Job Summary

Assists therapists with transportation, preparation and treatments of inpatients and outpatients. Provides care/service that meets the developmental needs of patients across the life span as appropriate to the patient population and as indicated on the skills checklist. Assists with all areas of rehabilitation as needed, including clinical and clerical support. This position will care for patients in the child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups. Employee performs clinical duties in accordance with population specific guidelines and adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as outlined in policy and procedures.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assists therapists with transportation, preparation and treatment of inpatients and outpatients. When transporting patients, uses applicable safety measures such as safety belts, wheelchair brakes, side rails, removal of leg rests, and properly positions patient in room or treatment area. Considers patient’s safety and modesty by properly draping with item such as sheet, rope, and slippers. Assists therapists or assistants with various treatments. Makes the appropriate therapist or assistant aware of any notable patient responses. Asks for assistance when appropriate for safe and effective patient care. Coordinates transportation schedule of inpatients with appropriate therapists or assistants and effectively communicates schedule and/or changes with the appropriate units involved. Effectively communicates with patients, i.e. explains treatments, sensitive to patient’s moods and needs, etc.

  • Seeks educational opportunities to increase clinical competency, including voluntarily seeks improvement in clinical skills by reading and observation of therapists.

  • Maintains a clean work environment and posts charges. Cleans and straightens assigned area(s) on a daily basis. Keeps dressings, instruments, equipment and supplies orderly and stocked; notifies appropriate person for ordering when necessary. Notifies appropriate persons for ordering supplies. Charges are posted in a timely manner.

  • Other duties as assigned.
